Best thing you can give little kids is time IMO. It was great being able to pop home at lunchtime to see Generalissimo #1.0 -

I used to live 4 miles away, then I moved and I'm 6 miles away; I used to moan about that, then I discovered the bus. If you have a decent bus service let someone else worry about the idiots on the road, it's much less stressful, and you get free entertainment!0

at the moment 2 miles (walk) with twice a week 50 minute drive each way to other offices.
When we move it will be 1hr 45 drive each way (motorway thankfully so no city centre traffic jams), but we're planning for that to be done one way on monday morning, stay over 2 nights with friend, drive home wed eve. work from home thurs/fri.
2 years of this and no longer! I reckon the drive is worth it so we can move soon, also it gives opportunity to do 3 10-12 hr days (nowt else to do in the evenings when nr the office) and then work 9-3 thurs /fri so DS can be picked up from school.DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft

I'm a SAHM now, but I used to cycle 1.5 miles to work - fabulous, for a commuter-phobe like me. Husband now cycles about 4 miles to work. Think we've got it easy.0

This is a good question - my journey is 34 miles - takes anything between 30 minutes and 2.5 hours and I hate it with a vengeance - unfortunately due to the nature of my work I could have short or long term secondments to anywhere. I live 15 mins walk from my 'base' but rarely work there - luckily when I work anywhere else I get expenses so petrol price is not an issue.
THe trip is made worse by the fact that in a fit of green madness the local council where I work did not allow the office to be built with enough parking spaces so I have to drive past where I work, park, walk to the bus stop and wait for a bus back to the office and the reverse in the evening - anything between 20 and 60 minutes added to my day for a net environmental dis benefit. Public transport takes nearly 2 hours each way if the 4 connections all work (ie normally much longer) and costs more so is not a real alternative.
I hate it so much, the powerlessness of being stuck in traffic, the extreme variation in journey times, the extra 'kick in the teeth' wait for the bus etc and just want to be at home with my wife and young children I find myself driving like a complete jerkoffI think....0 -

Use google maps to work out how far away you live. Use the "Get Directions" toolAmo L'Italia0 -
