Six years ago my commute was 9 miles, it would take 40-60 mins. Then I moved house and it was 160 miles each way and it would me about two hours or less. Now I'm back to a 10 mile commute and it takes me 18 minutes.

4 miles almost exactly. I used to work about 15 miles away and it was too much. The journey took at least an hour each way and I actually got bored of having to leave earlier and earlier to get there on time.

You are that picky that there is nowhere suitable within the 7500 square miles that are closer to your work? And I bet you'll complain about how expensive fuel is...:rotfl:

i work in one of the most expensive places in britain which is next door the the hole of britain so moving near work is unaffordable and i would need a passport:o

near where i am now are terraced houses, arces of streets with tightly packed cars, no room to swing a cat and therefore a but further down the motorway seems best, semi detached country living.

looking at houses last week made us realise that we can either live more spaciously with well to do people or crammed in like sardines with the average 2.4. this isnt being snobby, but one "estate" we went to I could have counted 50 white vans and when the kids parading in gangs hollering at each other.

0 miles I work from home.

compared to my old job I save £100 a month on petrol and I dont spend 2 hours a day battling through the town centre to get to work.

the roads are just crazy these days

    I walk to work.

When I have to travel elsewhere, I use public transport.

I was in a similar position although perhaps not quite as bad as you describe. My town was over priced although I'd liked to have stayed there. My gf adn i decided we'd be happy to travel a bit for a larger house for the same price.

As a result my commute went from 5miles to a fraction over 10 and hers went up from around 2miles. We now have a large front garden, large back garden, 3 bed detached bungalow for the price of a mid terraced 3 bed villa in my previous town.

Despite living twice the distance from work, my cummute is now almost all motorway and my travelling time has been halved!
I still only do around 8-9000 miles per year so I've bought an expensive car with only 2 seats and a soft top!

Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!

30 miles for me. 28.5 of them on the train, the rest on foot.

I used to live 4 minutes walk from work. That was fantastic.
