how many miles do you drive to work

I've got about a 3 mile commute, and I've started walking it after realising walking takes about the same amount of time as the bus.
I had a boss once who said she'd never take a job within 60 miles of her home, as she didn't want her personal and work lives to overlap. Totally insane if you ask me!0 -
I do a 20 mile each way commute, 12 miles of which is through countryside and is generally pleasant and traffic free, the other 8 miles is through clogged up Macclesfield0

You are that picky that there is nowhere suitable within the 7500 square miles that are closer to your work? And I bet you'll complain about how expensive fuel is...:rotfl:0 -
I work 16.4 miles away from home.
Although:
- I work shifts so never travel in rush hour, always at 5am/6am/7am and come home from work about 3pm/4pm/8pm/10pm/and anytime throughout the early hours.
- If I wanted to move closer to work it would cost a lot more for houses, so the saving in petrol costs wouldn't be worth it.
The number of miles you drive to work is not massively important. What is important is the journey to work. It's quite depressing and soul destroying travelling for 20 miles, which takes about an hour and is traffic most of the way, with the roads completely chaotic. That's what annoys me. The unreliability of the journey.Amo L'Italia0 -
various places but try to keep all my work within the ring road so never more than 10 miles, used to do 23 miles each way on a pushbike when I was younger, wouldn't want to do 23 miles in the car nowadays.0

I work from home and only drive 4500 miles a year. That allows me to have an expensive sports car that struggles to achieve 18mpg.
It also means I'm not spending 10 hours a week on the road or in traffic queues.0 -
I drive zero miles to work but I do cycle. Five miles there and five miles back.
I do have a car and use it mostly to get my wife around, as she's in a wheelchair. But I worked out the other day that in the last year I've cycled more miles than I've driven. My total motoring costs for the last year(including insurance, tax, MOT, maintenance, fuel and even buying the car) have been slightly less than a thousand pounds. As I get a car allowance from work of about eight hundred, I'm quite pleased abut that!
I sold my 22 grand car last year, which used to cost me four grand pa to run, paid off most of my mortgage, bought a banger and a bike. Have saved a fortune. :j0 -
I am only about half mile from work, but my son's nursery is 5 miles away so I have a 10 mile trip twice a day :-(0

I am 5 miles from work, but don't drive so I do it by bus. It takes from 20 to 50 minutes depending on the traffic. My OH has about a 13 mile drive each way, mostly cross country. He thinks that's too far.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I travel 16miles but its 15-20mins depending on traffic. Its rural then a good bit of the m25 only 1 junction and I am there.
I agree with redrabbit29. Its not the distance its the actual trip that matters. 5 miles in crawling traffic riding the clutch and people blaring their horn would be much harder than even 60miles on open roadsAlthough the petrol costs could swing it a bit lol.
