Hello, I've been lurking around this forum for a little while and wondered if you could help with a couple of questions...
Rice...can I have rice as a HEB on a original day, I thought you could but unless I'm totally blind I can't see it anywhere!
Eggs...how many eggs would you recommend to eat maximum in a week? I always remember my PE teacher (that was quite a few years ago mind!) says eat no more than 3 eggs a week but Slimming World encourages you to eat more as they're free. I always thought eggs are high in cholesterol so eating alot isn't exactly healthy.
Any ideas?

Hi Josie_Juimp
Eggs - there is a lot of umming and ahhing but the book contains the recomended amount as per slimming world and the current nutritionist's thoughts.
Rice - its a common misconception, rice isn't a healthy B on a red day, not even brown rice. It doesn't have enough fibre in it to count.0 -
Hi josieJ, welcome aboard
no - rice isn't available as a B choice I'm afraid - it has to be synned
In our class they also discuss the 'egg issue' - if people are watching their cholesterol, I believe it is recommended to stick to 3 a week as you say, but I know egg *whites* are fine, so one lady uses the whites for omlettes etc... Personally, I have about 6 a week, but have no choloesterol probs (that I'm aware of)0 -

From the latest information I've been reading people with high cholestrol should actually be eating MORE eggs, including yolks. This is because it is saturated fat that is now thought to cause heart disease not just cholestrol on it's own.In fact, egg yolks contain the healthy type of cholestrol that fights the bad type (yes 2 types, just like fats) so unless instructed by a medical doctor not to,I would enjoy as many eggs as you like.I try not to have too many as I find I get blocked up if I do:o:T:jHalf a stone off, only another 2 to go!:j:T:D;)Cats are truly evil, like women....;):D:p

And today - I was xmas shopping at lunchtime and had a greggs sausage roll! Im a bl%$dy nightmare this week, would not normally even touch anything like that - it was ver greasy too, but i did enjoy it (I ate it in the car to hide my shame).

That is great news kbb - I tend to eat a lot of eggs and I worry that I am over doing it as my cholesterol is a little high (5.5) My Dr, has certainly never told me to eat less of them or queried how many I have.
Cheers

Our consultants have always told us no more than 10 eggs a week - or 6 if you already have high cholestrol - which goes against Kel's advice, but just repeating what Ive been told. I probably eat 12 a week on average :rolleyes:0

I think the fear about eggs came about as a confusion with the saturated fat issue,ie cooked breakfasts with fried eggs on them.Eggs got tarred with the same brush cos people with high cholestrol were eating them, but with things high in saturated fats,so it looked like eggs were the cause of high cholestrol by default.Eggs do contain high cholestrol but it's good cholestrol,I think prawns are the same.
This is a link to just one article ebout eggs being good for you,out of tons:

Regarding the cholesterol theme - you might find this interesting
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-430682/Have-conned-cholesterol.html
A neighbour of mine had high cholesterol and for years she followed the advice from our GP surgery. Only eat 2 or 3 eggs a week, only eat wholemeal bread, avoid prawns and avocados and butter etc. Her cholesterol didn't come down one iota in those years. She used to write out menus for the week and never, ever went against GPs advice.
I am eating more eggs now I'm on SW and my "high" cholesterol is lower than its ever been.I buy fresh free range eggs from a local smallholding and have omelettes, scrambled eggs, use loads in SW quiches etc etc
