I think im gonna be really cheeky and join SW for 1 night to get the books:o can someone tell me how much it would cost to do so, and how much the additional books are like the directory and tesco book. also any other books that would be useful
x
as one of the other posters to this site has said, prob £9.50 (joining fee) and £4.50 for your first week's membership. Look out in your local free papers though as sw have been doing a promotion in our area and offering half price membership or first free week (havent paid attention but know we have had new members who have been clutching little vouchers!!)
If you are not interested in attending a class each week then have a look on ebay for your books although i would say the books that you can buy in class are not too expensive - most retailing at about three pounds whereas they seem to go for a fortune on ebay. You may also find the food optimising book on ebay but again I expect it sell for quite a bit - when the new food optimising books came out at the beginning of the year, our consultant was given permission by head office to sell them to existing members at the small price of £1.50!!!!
As for books to buy, there are lots and I have most of them. All of the slimming world books are good and there are lots of appealing recipes.
I would highly recommend the 100 comfort foods (£2.95) and the new book one pot wonders. (£4.50) also although a bit late now, simply summer.(£4.50)
These are some of the newer books - there are also two books which are called 100 green recipes (£2.95) and 100 free original recipes (£2.95) (I think these books have been around for ages)
the food directory is also very handy (£6.95) as this lists the syn values for dozens and dozens of foods!
If you are not keen on attending class each week, thats fair enough and you will get plenty of support on this website but I would say that at the begininng, the whole thing seems very confusing what with red days and green days, mix to match days and success express! Its also fun meeting new people and seeing how well they have done and you kind of motivate each other! you also get an award for each half stone loss you achieve (sticker plus certificate), plus sometimes there are taster
evenings so members bring in something slimming world friendly for you all to try.
what I would suggest thereofre is rather than attend for just one week is to buy a countdown (meaning you pay for 5 weeks but get six weeks membership) think this costs £22.50 plus your membership fee of £9.50. that way you get six weeks of class then you can carry on as you wish getting support from us lot on here as you require.0 -

hello again.
if you join slimming world you will get a food optimising pack. this will contain four food diaries, your food optimising book and I think (but dont quote me) a body magic booklet, success express/mix to match booklet.
The food optimising book contains details of the plan i.e. all about your red and green days, your healthy extra options and a brief index of different foods and syn values. It also has a section where your weight is recorded each week.
Having just read your other post regarding your shift work, why not go along to the class tomorrow and explain that you are working and see what your consultant suggests. Have you looked on the slimming world website at the "find a class" section? does the consultant run other groups that might be more convenient?
you will sure no doubt get lots of support on here if you cant attend a class and why not weigh yourself in boots each week (50p) so that you can keep a proper record of your weight each week.0 -
thanks to all spesh Flat Eric, really helpfull:j
I think im going to go along tomorow n get as much books n stuff as I can carry lol my o.h will weigh me once a week and he will put £1 for every lb i loose into my sealed can bank, but he said I have to put £1 per lb if I put anything on lol!
can someone give me an idea of what a meeting is like eg how long it lasts etc as sometimes I am really shy lol do u get weighed infront of everyone? would i need to stay for the image therapy cos o.h is driving me there and will be waiting out in the car.
Thanks again x0 -
Miss Nadine, yes you've got to stay to image therapy 'cos you pick up so many tips from the other members. You will be weighed but nobody else will know your weight, the SW consultant has a talk for around 15 mins, then goes through all the weight losses, and choosing slimmer of the week (who will receive a bowl of fruit) if you have gained, the SWC will ask if you know why, and will not mention how much your weight gain is. BTW you must fill in
the food diary for the 1st 4 weeks, it is really helpful to put everyting down, this will be checked every week by the SWC to make sure you are on track. Keep posting on this site, you get so many tips we are all here tohepl each other, good luck0 -

good morning
for your first class, I would allow at least 1 hour 30 mins.... I would suggest that you get your OH to either drop you off and come back to pick you up or take a good book. if he is waiting outside watching the clock, i doubt you will be able to relax and on your first night, you wont be able to just weigh and run!
As a new member, you will be given the "new member talk" where the consultant will explain all about the plan and answer any questions you may have about it.
Whilst this is happening, all the other members will be getting weighed and signing in.
Once your welcome chat is done with, the consultant will start image therapy. This is where she goes through each member (that has stayed to class) to see what kind of a week they have had. If they have lost weight then the consultant will say XXX has lost XXX pounds this week. The consultant will then ask the member what they have done that particular week, have they tried anything new, how they have got on with it etc. The consultant will also ask whether they have got anything coming up during the following week, a night out perhaps and if they do, the consultant will ask them how they are going to cope with it - and if it includes a meal, have they checked out the menu, do they know how they are going to cope with it etc. The consultant / other members will offer suggestions also.
If a member has gained weight then the consultant will say xxx has had a little gain this week. She will ask how the member feels about that and just have a general chat with them about what has gone wrong / have they been sticking to the plan / how are they feeling about their gain. The consultant will offer help as required including if necessary a one to one chat after class.
hope this helps.0 -
You also possibly won't be able to pick up all the books you want in class. Most consultants have to order them and you pick them up the next week.0
