Hi all,
I recently purchased a packet of fresh egg noodles from Asda and I can't find anywhere whether it will be a syn or not - lifelineonline didn't list it - anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Hi there - the following is for Sainsbury's, which are probably similar to Asda.

Flat Eric - Is it possible to count the synful foods as syns? Or are they SYN-FULL foods!!? If it's possible I would do as you suggest and have some each day but count the syns in them.

hello. some of the foods are very synful, like the heinz tinned puddings.... but some food is items i bought for bbqs in the summer but never had the bbq or bought too much food and stuck it in the freezer. so wouldnt amount to too many syns. Its just I try to plan my menus for the whole week (being 100% good of course) as If I cant have a completely clear week then I struggle to stick to the plan but with all these tempting treats, im struggling.. especially those heinz puddings....
I have been doing SW for just over a year and the odd naughty treats are creeping back in. Like my partner fancied some chips so i bought some thinking ok have them this once but now they seem to be a regular feature on my shopping list and even if i say oh I will buy them but wont eat them, it just doesnt work and my willpower evaporates!0 -
i bought some pudding rice. now it said online this was free (on green) - but thinking about it now - is it really free and has anyone got any suggestions for any recipes for a satisfying filling treat.
whilst we are on the subject, what do you do if you fancy something sweet? im after some suggestions for some easy cheap deserts that are as synfree as possible........0 -

Pudding rice is free and you can make syn free rice pudding with muller lights;
1 CUP PUDDING RICE, WATER ,SWEETNER , 1 VANILLA MULLER ,1 TOFFEE MULLER . BOIL RICE IN WATER ,SWEETNER UNTIL COOKED ,DRAIN THEN ADD BOTH MULLERS AND ENJOY0 -

Pudding rice is indeed free on green, but obviously how you cook it will affect that
I am told (by the lovely ladies in class) that in wartime, they cooked it in water, then stirred in milk and sugar (use sweetener instead for free)
Or cook it in milk using your HEA/s and sweetner. A 'real' recipe is 2oz rice to 1pint milk, 1 oz sugar - bake in the oven. Serves 2-4! sub the sugar for sweetener and keep the milk as SS or S (HE) and you are away!
good sweet treat food includes meringue (nest=3syns, shell=2syns) with o% greek yog (free) and berries. yummmmmmmy
sf jelly (2syns??) made up with 50/50 water and nat yog/fromage frais etc - makes a moussy type pud, esp if you 'whisk' it together
someone in class was experimenting with 'banoffee' pie - from memory muller toffee yog, gelatine, sliced banana etc.... someone here might have tried something like this0 -

how about this original one...except replace the mince with quorn, selection of veg or selection of beans (i use cans of mixed beans from lidl) which would make it free?
Serves: 4
Syns per serving:
3 Syns on Original, 2 Syns on Green*
*If not using beef as a Healthy Extra add 6 Syns per serving
Hints: A dollop of low fat natural yogurt on the top is extremely tasty and, if you’ve gone overboard on the chilli, it’s a great way to “cool” things down!
Replacing beef mince with Quorn mince, and swapping Bovril for Vecon or Marmite turns this recipe into a vegetarian delight. The 3 saintly Syns stay the same on Original and the whole recipe becomes Free on Green!
Fry Light, for spraying
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 fresh chillies, deseeded and chopped
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp paprika
a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 x 397g/14oz can chopped tomatoes
1 level tbsp tomato puree
284ml/½ pint beef stock made with Bovril from the jar
salt and ground black pepper
454g/1lb extra lean beef, minced
1 x 198g/7oz can red kidney beans, drained
fresh coriander leaves, to garnish
1. Spray a large saucepan with Fry Light and fry the minced beef until brown. Drain off the fat. Add the onion to the mince and cook gently until softened.
2. Add the garlic, chillies and all the spices and continue frying, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes.
3. Add the canned tomatoes, tomato puree and stock. Stir well and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 15 minutes, until the liquid is slightly reduced.
4. Season with salt and pepper and add the drained kidney beans. Heat through gently for about 5 minutes.
5. Serve hot, sprinkled with chopped coriander leaves, with some plain boiled rice (2 Syns per 28g/1oz on Original) and a green salad.0 -
Thanks - I usually make normal chilli but with quorn mince, but the picture I've got in my head is all chopped veg - but I can't remember what veg it was!0

WI day again, another 3lb lighter, going to be really good this week as it's my birthday next weekend and going for a meal with friends will try to be good with my food and maybe only a couple of drinks has I really like a dessert, what to do?
Hello. Happy Birthday for next week.
I always find it hard when I go out for food because I either have my "im gonna make the most of it and stuff my face head on" :rotfl:or I have my "half sensible head on"
It has been brought up in our class before that some of our members enjoy a bottle of wine at the weekend. Obviously a bottle of wine is a lot of syns.....
so it has been suggested by our consultant in class before that whilst slimming world does not advocate saving up your syns/doing without so you can "binge" at the weekend, if you work out how many syns you are allowed over the whole week, say 105 if you are allowing 15 syns per day or 84 if you are allowing 12 syns per day, 70 if its just 10
work out what your special weekend treat is, be it that bottle of wine or that extra large slice of cheesecake..... and deduct this from your weekly syn allowance. then whatever syns you have left, divide this by 7 and you are left with your daily syn allowance.
I guess you shouldnt do this every week as having only a handful of syns each day to play with will no doubt prove hard to stick to.
It would be interesting to hear consultant31 views on this.
You could also flexi syn, so you are going out for a meal, do you know where you are going? do they have a website that you can look out so that you can read up on the menu?
If you flexi syn, you say, ok, Im going to ???? restaurant, this is what im likely to have, this is going to amount to ???? number of syns so for saturday night, my meal out, im going to allow myself ???? syns. Then go out enjoy yourself, enjoy your syns and next morning, as our consultant puts it! you can look in the mirror and say I kept in control, i stuck within my limit of ???? syns and then you get straight back on the plan.
When I go out for a meal, I do struggle as I have mentioned above but what I tend to do is rather than go all out, I try to choose a sensible starter - say melon, a reasonable main, say steak and jacket and then go all out on the pudding.
I think if you went out and tried to be too sensible then you would feel deprived. I know that I would end up going on a massive binge if i tried to be too sensible on a night out. Its only your birthday once a year so enjoy it :bdaycake:0
