You just need to remember that it needs a flavoursome sauce to get its flavour from - I don't know what the recipe says but just make sure there is plenty of beef bovril in there if you want it to taste like "real" mince.
Yeah spot on - to me you might as well use cardboard as Quorn - it'd probably be nicer infact.
I have given it a few tries but it's a waste of time, energy n money to my tastes I'm afraid:o

I find the Zero ones are the best tasting - I cannot stomach normal diet drinks but the zero (coke and sprite) are quite nice and even more so when well chilled :beer:Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

I love cherry coke, haven't had it in a while now. I drink coke Zero for my coke fix.
Thanks skintslimmer for the tip about the dried tesco mince. I'll be sure to pick some up next time i'm in a big tesco.
I've had a pretty good day today. Got up about 1145, which is a lot later than usual for me, but getting out of bed is difficult for me right now. But then Mr Scroogey and I headed to the gym for an hour, and I feel fantastic for it. Just hope I don't ache too much tomorrow as we've only just recovered from boxercise!
After leaving the gym around 3 we popped up to the coop and pick up lots of reduced stuff. I've found the coop summer eating range really tasty, and it tends to be fairly low syn for pre prepared stuff.
I can recommended the Stuffed Peppers (2.5 syns either day)
and Chilli Chicken Kebabs (don't know the syns for this one but it was marinated chicken on a wooden skewer, so should be low on a red)
Tonight we are trying pork and pepper kebabs. When I know the syn value of that one I'll let you know.
I think the biggest change we've both been through is the fact that we are both trying hard and keeping each other on track. We go to the gym together, which means we motivate each other to actually go. (I am quite likely to have thought, Oh, I'll just go tomorrow if I was going on my own)
I know I think about food and what I'm going to eat differently. I no longer think oh I'll just have that. I think about how to put a meal together ie will it go with salad/rice/lots of veg. Before it would be whatever with chips.
Finally when I'm tempted to stray off the food optimising path Mr Scroogey is there to say no. I was very tempted to get a rustlers burger thingy as it was only 59p :embarasse. Mr Scroogey stopped me. The ironic thing is I know I wouldn't have enjoyed it and felt sick afterwards. (That's what happened with Pizza Hut)
Then later on I stopped Mr Scroogey from having a second bag of crisps.:rotfl:0 -
There was a recipe for Moussaka in the current magazine - if you like I'll post the recipe. let me know. It was for an original/red day using Lamb mince (although I did beef) and instead of the bechamel topping, it was a yoghurty one - but a lot nicer than I thought it would be.
BTW - Have you all seen that Muller Lights are only 25p in ASDA this week???0 -
Evening, had a very busy weekend so I haven't posted much - sorry but I have been very good too - a green day with spinach and chickpea curry for dinner yesterday and today we had a barbeque so lots of meat for a red day. I should weigh myself tomorrow morning for the online WI so i'm hopeful I'll lose a bit.
Just one thing - I don't quite get why it's so important to drink lots of water to lose weight. Surely the amount of calories you eat is the important thing, regardless of whether they are washed down with water or not? If you eat more calories than you need, you put on weight with the reverse being true also. So how can drinking so much water help (I can see why lots of water may be good from a general health point of view but specifically with regards to weight loss I don't see the logic)?0 -

Hi BISCOTTE,
I wouldn't say water makes you lose weight as such but it does help your body work more efficiently which obviously helps you to lose weight.Basically if you don't drink enough liquid your body can't function at it's best therefore your organs can't process food properly, you feel more tired because you're dehydrated and you're far more likely to be constipated too!So if you're holding onto excess urine and poopy you'll feel bloated, tired and sluggish. If you drink lots of water (plus fruit and veg, which do the same thing and distribute vitamins and minerals at the same time) you'll have more energy, clearer skin and are more likely to lose weight as water fills you up a lot. It's an accepted fact that thirst is often mistaken for hunger which is why you should try and have a large glass of water before each meal/snack.That way,if you're thirsty you'll eat less, and if you're hungry, you'll still eat less cos your belly's full of water!
HTH,
Kelly. x:T:jHalf a stone off,only another 2 to go!:j:T:D;)Cats are truly evil,like women....;):D:p

Hello!
Been lurking for a bit- rejoined SW three weeks ago and have lost 2 pounds each weeks so far... but been ill for last 3 days and just eaten what ever I could swallow (fruit juice, semolina, mash, cake and ice cream due to no real chewing required!!)so DREADING WI on Wednesday. Although better today (tonight) as slept about 14 hours and much of the pain has gone ( hence I am writing this now!).
Anyhow, did I miss the meringue receipe?? Would LOVE that. Have a terrible sweet tooth and trying to make more stuff. Even if it just means I burn some calories just flippin' making it...
ANYHOW my request is for any low syn recipes for fairy/ cupcakes that anyone has. Would be gratefully received etc... I have checked the online thing on the website but not really any ideas like using Splenda and low fat butter etc...
Hope someone can help!!??!Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0 -
Glad you're feeling brighter Lexa.
Not sure what meringue recipe you want but I get a box of meringue nests (2.5-3 syns each) and we all have a couple each for a quick dessert. I either put fresh strawbs or rasps in them and a blob of low fat creme fraiche or I mix a teaspoon of lemon curd into some low fat plain yoghourt (TOTAL 0% fat is lovely) or even quark.
I also roughly crush a meringue and add strawberry Muller yoghourt and that's like Eton Mess. Whatever you do with meringues you need to do it just before serving as they tend to disintegrate.
Another meringue thing - mix a teaspoon of Options drink with your low fat yog and spoon over a meringue.
Enjoy!!! :j0
