  • Hi everyone

Angie loves veg, if u are feeling really stuck for ideas, why dont you ask your consultant about fast forward?! you never know a week on that may shock your system and help you lose weight by food optimising the week after. Also maybe try having alcohol every other day and having different syns every other night (sounds crappy i know but may be worth a shot!)

WI tonight, not feeling too confident! when i am not at work during the week i have crashes on the weekend. I am not winging as per other posts (hehe) as i know it is my own fault! went to morrisons last night and bought raspberries and have a goal of having a litre and a half of water today as well as a run before WI to see if i can rectify the situation!! Full steam ahead!!

Will be back later to let you know how i get on!

Lots of good advice from you all thanks :j -

I shall look at increasing my fibre intake - I do use my HEB's every day (and I use a range of different ones, not the same all the time), but there are alternative choices that might increase my daily fibre intake...

Dropping the alcohol further is a great suggestion studentsynner, but I may find this harder than I would like to admit - we have already dropped substantially (more than halving my intake). I could start by having 2 non alc days a week - I can see how I can fit this in without too much adjustment - more than that would be a struggle at the mo :o , but I do take hear your advice - the funny thing is I would have no idea what to use the syns on if not on alcohol!!!

Exercise - I do a fair bit already, weekly yoga and tai chi, every other day an hour (or two) on the allotment....

Pennylane - 1-2 lb a week would be great (and well done to you:D ), but as you can see, I've been at classes for 6 weeks and have lost 4.5lb. Slow would be fine, but my weight has barely left the starting blocks....

I did ask my consultant about fast forward, but she wouldn't tell me anything ('oh, you don't need that'), one of many reasons I started last night at a new group - I am hoping this new class will provide support and ideas where at the last class I felt alone and unmotivated.

right - off to have a delicious glass of refreshing water, and wonder what a rainy half term day has in store for us all - we did have plans for a jaunt to the seaside, but it feels less appealing now....

any further ideas / tips and suggestions gratefully received of course....
  • exercise wise, have you thought about trying swimming? its not too strenuous and i feel like ive actually done something when ive been! it works all the muscles in your body aswell!

i whole heartedly sympathise with you on the alcohol front, but if you have a few alcohol free days and use some of your syns on puddings, snacks etc then am sure this will boost the loss! i think sliiming world have a snack book out so that maybe worth having a look at! good luck! xx

Other than cutting your alcohol, try minimising your bread intake. It may be just me (though I'm not allergic to wheat gluten etc) but I lost LOADS of weight quite quickly last time on SW when I removed bread completely from my diet!

Banana, yoghurt, egg and beans for brekkie
    Savoury rice for lunch
and Baked Bean Lasagne for us tonight! :j

well done to you too lady v, every half pound counts, its a step in the right direction

here's the top ten tips we got last night, see if they help anyone
    • Drink water or sugar free juices, the more the better, but don’t gulp it down as this can lower your blood pressure and make you feel faint.
    • speed foods, go through your book and pick out all the ss foods you like, and eat as much of these as you can combine in your meals, they are called “speed” foods for a reason
    • Drink a glass of water and/or juice if you still feel hungry after a meal, quite often thirst is mistaken for hunger. Even better drink one before a meal, to fill you up quicker whilst eating
    • eat breakfast – there is nothing better for getting your metabolism going than a good breakfast
    • vary your heb, your body gets fed up of eating the same all the time, sometimes a change to these can really boost your weight loss
    • vary your foods on each day – i.e. on green don’t always have baked potato and beans, on red don’t always have chicken, variety is the way to go, no one can face the same meals for the rest of there lives!!!!
    • get you magazines out, make a file of recipes, (I know this was posted earlier) and then rotate them so the same ones aren’t always at the front.
    • batch cook, put aside a couple of hours a week, to batch cook, then freeze recipes in meal size portions, ready meals for when you have one of those days you don’t want to cook, and if you do extra’s (say make 4 portions instead of 2) you start to build up a stock. This works well with veggies too, peel a big pan of potatoes and mash them at once, then freeze in portions, also with soups etc. Apparently the people who suggested this reckon they now hardly throw any food out, as its all used before it goes off, and also its reducing there food bills.
    • walking, its free, it’s easy to do, and it’s great for toning up you legs and bum. walk to the corner shop, or anywhere else you could really walk instead of using the car.
    • had a maintain/gain and don’t know why? Go back to basics, do a food diary, and be honest, you may find there is something there you haven’t been counting, or you are not always weighing your healthy extras like you should thinking you can estimate it well now cos you’ve been doing it so long.
ANGIE hope this helps mate , don't feel to down on yourself hun , i never loss my weight quick and some weeks i never loss anything at all put on , just keep at it , drink low cal tonic water ( lemon or lime) works for me , you will get to target , as the saying go's slowly slowly catchy monkey , peachyx

    .... and with me its just gonna be s l o w !!!

gained 1/2lb this week, which actually reflects how I AM in control with SW... 5th wedding anniversary this weekend, posh meal out, weekend away at MIL's (with no control over food choices - MIL is 'you will you will' Irish :D) but one weekend did not become a week, good choices were made when it *was* possible.

however, this means I have officially flatlined - my 'inspirational progress chart' on the website is showing that I will get my club 10 next JANUARY!!! ARRGH! (hmmm, not that inspirational actually)

Right, so this is where I need your help (please!) - I do this plan 100% - this weekend is the *first* weekend I have deviated *at all*. I use 8 - 12 syns a day (mainly alcohol), mix red and green days, I weigh all my HEB's, I write *everything* down (even for the last weekend etc), but the weight aint shifting.....

    advice? ideas? tips?

    hi angie,
can i ask how active you are?do you walk anywhere regularly or take any kind of 'proper' exercise?activity is the only thing that makes a BIG difference to my body, i.e. lose/gain/sts.
also if you drink wine or beer regularly it is very hard for your body cos it has to burn the cals from alcohol before it can burn body fat.this is why if you stop drinking you lose weight very quickly (obviously if you're drinking ALOT then you're taking away ALOT of cals! ) but generally the body metabolises alcohol differently to other substances.plus sometimes you can have a yeast imbalance from drinking wine/beer/eating a lot of bread which will show as specific weight around your tummy and make it very hard to shift weight from there too.
i would say if you answer yes to any of the above that you could help by avoiding yeast rich foods/drinks for a few days, see if you feel less bloated, and go for a walk BEFORE dinner!your metabolism will be raised for up to 4 hours after:T ,helping you burn all the energy from your dinner and then some.well that's the theory anyway....:D

    hope this helps,kelly. x

PS - If you really struggle not having a drink (i have to admit,if i didn't drink,i'd probably only weigh 4 stone!!!!!;) :D  ) then have spirit instead.preferably a clear one as these tend to be less yeasty than wine/beer.and use your syns on BUTTER on your spuds/veg if you're stuck!
    :T:jHalf a stone off,only another 2 to go!:j:T
    :p:D;)Cats are truly evil,like women....;):D:p
    Was 11 st 5,now 10 st 7,would like to be....9 stone

Generally speaking Fast Forward is only used as a very last resort after every other avenue has been explored, so I don't think your Consultant was being unsupportive, she probably just thought that there were lots of other things you could do first.

FF is a very low-intake diet, unlike Food Optimising in every way and unless you commit to doing it for at least a week (which is really quite hard) it could be counter-productive.

Try all the other things first - up your water intake, change from Green to Red days frequently and change your HEBs around, weigh absolutely everything that's not free food (and double check what you think is free, actually is) and I agree with Skint_Catt, stop eating bread for a while and see if it makes a difference.

    Good luck
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Hello sorry to hear you have maintained for the second week running. A work colleague who joined slimming world recently. She had a gain the other week of 3.5 pounds so I wrote the attached for her (she only works part time). I am sorry I waffle on for so long but it might be helpful? One thought, what did you wear to WI? If you wear jeans - these themselves can weigh 2 pounds. I have scales at home and I am always amazed at my varying weight depending on what clothes I wear....

Questions you need to ask yourself…..

    1. Are you eating enough?

If not then your body will complain and either you wont lose weight as your body will be holding on to everything it can. This seems to be a familiar complaint in our group.

    2. Are you having mainly green days?

Another familiar complaint in our group. We have Members who have stuck to the plan 100% but put on or maintain and they often say they have done mainly green. Our consultant says of green days that it takes longer to digest green day food and comments that you will still lose the same amount of weigh over the same period, it will just happen differently?!

    3. Are you drinking enough water?

If not and you are having lots of green days then you are not enabling your body to digest the food properly and you will probably feel all bunged up and horrid. I am having more green days now than before as I love my jacket chips and there are more foods that are free that I can have on a green day than a red so on a green day I can help keep my syns down. A typical green day for me would be beans on toast for lunch (beans free and bread HEB) with Jacket chips (potatoes cooked on jacket potato setting in my microwave then sliced up and put on a baking tray, spray with fry light and wait for skins to crisp up). Yum yum yum! I have this with either fried eggs (cooked with frylight) and mushrooms and ham as my other Healthy Extra B – you can get about 4 or 5 slices of ham for 85 g! or those quorn cracked pepper fillets (which are free on both green/red) All of these food items are free or using healthy extras meaning I can have a glass of wine and some sauce with my meals and still stay within 10 – 12 syns

    4. Are you having enough variety?

I try to vary my menus each week and try different / new things. I think this is important as if you eat the same all the time (you and your body will get bored!) It is also important to treat yourself and allow yourself naughty things occasionally.

    5. Are you weighing your healthy extras?

Another familiar question asked by our consultant and not often answered by the member! I religiously weigh my cheese and other bits and pieces but I think it is common fault to just guess the 28g once you have been doing it a while.

5a Are you consuming hidden syns?

It seems the same product i.e. a Sainsurys packet rice can have more syns or not be free as compared to the same product made by Batcherlors. One of our members put on 4 pounds this week and said one of the reasons for this was that the Crosse and Blackwell Pasta is more syns than the Bathchelors and she hadn’t appreciated this.

For example, I have been devouring those Heinz Mean Beanz but had not appreciated that some of them (the Tikka flavour for example) were syns (I haven’t had any but would have done if I had been able to find them! And I would have thought they were free until I looked). The Italian beans for example are free so it can get very confusing…..

    6. Are you having the correct healthy extras?

I think the Nimble bread is disgusting and wont buy it again. It doesn’t even toast well and the nimble I have frozen breaks apart when you try to get a slice so a total disaster!! I really like the Hovis Seed Sensations but this is not on the list in the book or on the website so I have to syn it – 1 slice = 4 or 5 syns. If I was being really ignorant, I could pretend it was my HEB although all I would be doing is cheating myself as I would then be having those extra 5 syns.

The slimming world website gets updated all the time with the new healthy extras both A and B so it is worth keeping an eye on. Also the Slimming World Magazine is a good point of reference for food news including new healthy extras and products which are free or what their syn value is etc.

    7. Why not try some Mix to Match

I am really liking Mix to Match because it means I can have a substantial lunch (Beans on toast / jacket potatotes) and a red tea. Each meal (breakfast lunch and tea) you treat as either a green or red meal and you snack on superfree foods (i.e foods that are free on a red or a green day such as Muller light yogurts as your snacks)

    8. Superfree fruit / veg

Grapes are not a speed food. The book reads “speed food are foods that are low or extra low in energy density compared to others in the same food group”

So if you ate 100g of grapes and 100g of Mulberries then you would consume less calories eating the mulberries than you would the grapes.

    9. Don’t forget ….

Your eating habits are changing for the better and when I have a day when I syn overload I don’t worry about it as I know that overall I am eating much better now than I ever have done.

    10. Don’t beat yourself up about it

    11. Have what you want ….

As I said it is important to have variety and if that means having one day a week when you don’t follow the plan then so be it. If you go out for roast dinner on a Sunday then have the Yorkshire pudd and the gravy - just say I will have one Yorkshire pud unlike me who would want half a dozen! As I said before xmas, I was synning lots at the weekends and still losing weight. It was only if I was really bad (3 xmas parties in one week) that I would put on. Overall it might take me longer to get to my target weight but I don’t want to be miserable doing it and so I will continue to enjoy my treats and you should too.

Please don’t be dishearted that you have put on so much there may be an innocent reason for it and you may find you have a really good loss next week.

    12. Was it your Star week?

This can be a factor and you should let your consultant know when it is your star week so that any pattern can be picked up on. Even if you are not actually having a period you might still get all the symptoms. Isn’t being a woman wonderful?!

    13. SAS Log

I am attaching these which I have photocopied on to A4 for you. You need one for each day and I think it should be self-explanatory how they get filled in. These are for you not your consultant. I haven’t done one yet but will let you know how I get on with them.

    14. Food diary

I have food diaries at home (I think). I had to do a food diary last week and find that when I am keeping one, If I have to write it down, I don’t eat it!! Although I do slip up occasionally
Hi mate try this too , ask at class for a weeks worth sas logs it will let you see what you mite be able to change , peachy x
