Doubt you will get a free code. Plenty of sellers on ebay who do Motorola unlock codes for about £4.
Send them your model no., imei, and network and they will email you the unlock code.0 -

I have noticed that a few people are want to unlock their phones which are on the Vodafone network.
Vodafone are happy to give Network Unlock codes (NUC) as long as you're a customer either Contract or Pay As You Talk (PAYT)
If the handset is over 12months old then the NUC will be free of charge. If the device is under 12months old there will be a charge of £19.99 (inc VAT) PAYT customer have to have this in credit on there handset which will be debited once the NUC has been issues.
To get the NUC you simply need to contact customer services on 08700 700 191 or 191 from your Vodafone mobile. We will need to take the make and model of the phone and also the IMEI number. The IMEI number can be found be entering *#06# into the device, it can also be found in the battery compartment of the phone.
If we hold the NUC on our system then we can issue the code immediately, if we don't there's a time scale of 48-72hours.
Hope this helps.
