MoneySavingExpert is all about screwing the system. If you prefer to be sanctimonious and sit on your high horse, this may not be the best forum for you
Tesco screw customers every day of the week by overcharging them, and get away with it because most people don't even check their receipts. We're all about consumer revenge, hereThanks to all who post constructively.

You can stop yourself feeling sick and dreadful by not trying to "screw" the system everytime.
So is it ok for Tesco to persistently overcharge its customers without fear of being accused of abusing their good faith? I think not, as stated so many times but still unseen by many, if Tesco took notice and resolved these overpricings each time they had to fork out a refund then NOBODY would have an opportunity to take advantage of it, why shouldn't I take advantage of an overprice when I am fully aware that the branch is knowledgeable of the mispricing yet not acted to rectify it? what makes Tesco so purine that it shouldn't get back a little of what it dishes out to the vast majority of its customers that shop there under the delusion that they are actually going to
get charged the price advertised?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
ok, this thread is going off topic again and into the rights or wrongs of the Tesco policy. There is a thread running on Discussion Time for debating these issues, this thread isn't the place to do it, please.
The whole point of the thread, the bargains, gets lost amongst the discussion and that doesn't help anybody. I did ask you to please stay on topic a few posts back as well, so if the discussion continues the thread will either have to be closed entirely or split like before and moved to Discussion Time once more.
Please stay on topic, guys, and save me the work - thanks0 -

I went to Tesco's yesterday, got some organic cheese, noticed the difference from sticker to price per kilo on the tab. Bought it overcharged from the displayed price went to CS and got the refund and kept item, I wasn't greedy just bought a wensleydale and a double gloucester. When I went over I pointed out the whole section was incorrectly priced CS couldn't say much about it, we are talking about 9 or 10 different types of cheese. Mr Tesco's have probably easily made my refund cash out of those they have overcharged who haven' t noticed. Mr Tescos are having a laugh with the overcharges in the first place this is a multi billion pount company, hire some staff to go and check stuff properly then there would be no opportunity for price errors, it ain't rocket science its just penny pinching and hoping customers won't notice.
How can you claim for an overprice without knowing the two prices in the first place ? Thus virtually everyone who has claimed under the policy must know before the till anyway. When you spend say £100 it is unlikely that your going to remember exact prices of individual items, without knowing/suspecting an overcharge in the first place.0 -

Tesco have made it harder to pick up on whether the special offers have been done by putting them down at the bottom of the receipt. Prior to that if you bought two of a product it would show immediately after the second one a reduction, by scanning down you could quickly see that they had all been given. As a high percentage of my purchases are special offers, it's much harder to be sure that they have all been done now. Another example of how Tesco are actively trying to discourage customers from spotting/rectifying their pricing errors
My latest errors spotted were stir fry turkey strips 2 for £3, and pack of small continental cheese portions. Both were going through at full priceThanks to all who post constructively.

I will and do continue go out and look for the incorrect pricing to stock up on the freezer etc on these goodies now since a member of a certain store staff spoken to me like they did. Sorry Tesco's, but you have picked the wrong person to upset, as now mentioned on this post:

I did pick up in a store in Mansfield some Kitten Flea treatment drops (6 treatment per pack for 24 weeks protection). The shelf ticket which these were sitting under was £1.92 and next door to it was another one with the "same" product for £7.29. Incorrectly stacked on the shelf I wonder. I picked up 2 what I thought was the £1.92 each as the boxes all look the same, till recipt showed as £7.29 each - a quick march to the CS Desk as I have been overcharged as they were incorrect priced on the shelf (CS lady agreed as well as the boxes stacked behind were also the the larger packs are the cheaper price) Both £1.92 and £7.29 shelf tickets removed, and £14.58 refunded to me and free flea treatment for my new kittens in a few weeks time :j
Now to tally it all up of the bargins over the last few weeks
10x packs of 16 bacon = £2.58 each
2x Pack of flea treament = £7.29
2x 2Kg of Gammon = £8.48
2x Blocks of cheese = £3.65
6x 1.2Kg of Gammon = £6.26
Total Price = £102.20 for free - thank you very much Mr Tesco! (note, this is not all at once, but over a long period and in varies different stores as I have about 12 in a 25 mile of me and all for saries for the groups that we do - not the flea treament of course)

Watford Tesco today, the 2 Litre Coca Cola stand had a 38p Sainsburys Lemonade sticker attached to it, so I bought two as normal. They refused to accept it, whilst expecting this, I hoped to get away with it, I ain't got the bottle to ask for less obvious missprices.0

The reason for the Tesco checking system is to avoid prosecution by Trading Standards under S20 of the Consumer Protection Act for overcharging and displaying misleading prices. By having a "Paper system" they can frequently claim that they have exercised "reasonable precautions and due diligence" in ensuring they get it right. The trick is to blame the manager and staff, who Trading Standards are usually reluctant to prosecute.
As punters, this is not our problem. We are entitled to assume the lower price will be charged in every case, as otherwise it is an offence. If we are overcharged, we can use THEIR policy of refunds, and why not? They have set up the system to save themselves money, which seems to work in two ways:
- By giving refunds they avoid trouble with Trading Standards, which can be expensive (fines, costs, staff time, inconvenience) and lead to bad publicity.
- By having a paper system they can usually avoid prosecution. However, it involves using trained staff (not stackers, cashiers etc) to work it properly. It is cheaper to just tick the boxes regardless, and accept that a few refunds are cheaper than having these extra staff.
They can deny this all they like, but after seeing it in action for many years I can assure everyone that's how it is.0 -
hi guys
beef steak 5.98 sel 6.28 packet, some stores still have the quattro razor blades 2.98 £3.00 voucher inside (think of the points). Also the cheese is in abundence as all the main ones seem to be out by 1p each.0
