Hi
Has anybody every been refused a refund evan if they do say the price is wrong. I went to my local Tesco and purchased some cheese on the pack it said £2.29 but on the shelf it stated £2.11.
It went through the till at £2.29. Went and asked at the CS. She went and had a look and said yes you are right you have been over charged. Went to see her manager who told her to refund the difference of of 18 pence. I asked about the policy, she told me her manager had said refund the difference if you want to go and find her you can but not sure were she is now.
Has anybody else experienced this and if so has anybody complained to Head Office, please let me know as very new to this.

Haven;t had it happen to me (but then I only did it once). They do seem to try this. It clearly goes against the policy. I'm sure HO would sort it out for you.0 -

Thank you for your message.
I appreciate your comments about being overcharged; it is important to us that
we are consistent with our pricing. Should a customer be overcharged they are
entittled to that amount back together with a gift card to the value of £2 by
way of an apology.
I hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back to your local Asda store
again soon.
For further correspondence regarding this issue, please reply to this email.

Dear Asda,
Can you tell me what your current policy is towards customers who have
inadvertently been overcharged?

Yes, this has happened to me.
I have used this overcharge to my advantage twice now, the first time I bought a few blocks of cheese, and yesterday went with my sister and got organic cheese and gammon, I had spent almost £90 on genuine shopping (bought microwave).
It was the same young man on CS both times, and I'm asuming the same produce manager and duty manager, I think their CS was appalling.
The first time they offered to refund the difference, then to refund but keep the cheese. I stood my groud and asked to see duty manager and eventually got money back.
Yesterday, the produce manager came over and offered to refund the difference "as you are obviously happy to buy at that price". I refused and quoted their policy to them, then him and CS guy went off and CS came back offering to refund up to 6 of each item. I had bought 8 of one type of cheese, they said they would refund the other 2 but keep them, I refused this, and complained that they have no signs up with the policy of 6 items and also that as they had gone through the checkout, (which is where I assume they enfoce bulk buy policy) and I had been overcharged that they should refund, they absolutley refused, and I intend to speak to head office about it.
They did say that they knew it wasn't the first time I had done it and that they would be investigating it?? and CS said that as I was aware of what the correct price was I had willingly entered into a contract to buy at that price and was manipulating their goodwill policy to get free food, I was a bit gobsmacked at this, but did point out that they should be more concerned that everyone else who had bought those items had been overcharged.
I did feel dreadful though and felt quite sick (adrenaline) when i left the store. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0 -
ben500 wrote:You might want to try and get them to qualify this further for you as I stated in my post about this recently the £2 actually applies to EACH item you purchase so if you bought say 10 tins of soup and was overcharged by 1p on each you would actually receive £20.10, 10p in cash the rest in gift cards, again this is not something they tend to bang the drum about and local stores will always try to weasel their way out by only offering the 10p and 1 x £2 goodwill card, any chance you could play a little ping pong with them for us to get them to confirm this is still the situation please?
Ben500 - I have written to ASDA again asking them to clarify the situation regarding the vouchers and will of course post here as soon as I receive a replyThe best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -
Sorry if you feel this is off topic but I think relevant to those intending to take advantage of this thread.
If they accuse you of trying to manipulate the system by deliberately buying overpriced items simply point out to them that you saw the price differential as a saving and expected to see it reflected on your till receipt and when it didn't appear that then and only then did you know this was an overprice, this arguement will shoot them out of the water, as for customer service using the "your abusing the policy" so what, would they rather you chat with the trading standards about it instead? or perhaps advertising standards authority to alert them to the fact they are advertising a policy they don't wish to uphold and put a great deal of effort into trying to wriggle out of it at every opportunity even resorting to intimidating their customers, if they corrected mistakes when pointed out to them you wouldn't have any opportunity to abuse the policy would you!
These overprices come about because procedures are not followed, there is a four point check system that Tesco are supposed to use in order to avoid or at least keep to a minimum such incidences but it just isn't followed, there is also a procedure set in place to deal with refund and replace whereby it should be seen as an alert and cascaded to head office and all branches in that cluster but again it isn't followed hence the jamboree going on at the moment, it isn't followed because it highlights the fact that the store's housekeeping is not up to scratch, an obvious disincentive to those responsible to follow procedure.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I've read Bens comments twice and they make no sense at all to me. You can use whatever mumbo-jumo you like, but at the end of the day, Tesco were spot on with what they said:jordylass wrote:...I was aware of what the correct price was I had willingly entered into a contract to buy at that price and was manipulating their goodwill policy to get free food, I was a bit gobsmacked at this
There is no way you can deny that you knew you were going to be overpriced, and you were doing so solely for the reason of getting free food. I dont see why you can claim to be gobsmacked - the truth is Tesco have realised exactly what you are doing, and you don't like it.0 -

If Tesco were more efficient none of us would be able to take advantage. If Tesco spent a bit more time checking their own prices instead of everybody elses they might find they would save a great deal of money.
Meanwhile I for one am going to take full advantage of their own inefficiency!

I don't for a minute deny that Tesco need to get their house in order. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if you abuse the offer and they then question you about it.0

I think, that this is known as sharp practice and is not in "the spirit" of the scheme, that is there to help genuine shoppers.
You can stop yourself feeling sick and dreadful by not trying to "screw" the system everytime.0
