Had my first instance of a cheeky manager trying it on tonight. We went to the next Tesco along from out usual one after visiting my brother in hospital (elective surgery, and he's O.K.;)) as it's a 24 hour store. I certainly wasn't going to go by the meat isle without some serious scrutiny- and sure enough my favourite pork rolled shoulder joints were overpriced as usual:D. Having found the bacon aisle (oddly it was across the store from the rest of the meat), we discovered that the thick cut back was overpriced- but decided to just get a joint of pork so as not to push our luck. Anyway, I grabbed the biggest joint on the shelf, bought it, and moseyed over for my refund.
The CS chap listened to my explanation, and as I tend to do now, I accompanied him over to point out the misprice to him. On the way though, we bumped into a manager, who accompanied us to the shelf. When I pointed out the misprice (as ever, £2.65 on shelf, £2.68 on pack) he entered into a quiet discussion with the CS assistant about what to do. When he turned to me and said that as it was only 3p per kilo overcharged, how about he charge me £5 for my £7.77 joint, I replied: "I thought it was Tesco's policy to offer a full refund?"
With a proper poker face, he turned to the CS assistant and said 'he's right'- then turned to me and said 'it's yours':T.
The CS guy then disappeared for a few minutes, and then reappeared to explain that he'd been covering his own !!!!!! with management. He was very nice about giving me my refund, but very thorough, cross referencing all the codes on the till receipts that were generated with every other till receipt- since he never asked for my name or address I was happy to comply and wait while he wrote it all down. As I was leaving he said 'enjoy!'- to which I replied that I would, since on past experience I know that the joints really are very tasty, especially the one my wife cooked up on Sunday coated in herbs- which really was absolutely spot on:D.0 -
I gave this a try today at my local Tesco. I soon found some Ribeye Steak (my favourite cut for flavour!!) where the shelf price was £8.98/kg and the pack price £9.49/kg. I picked four of the biggest, juiciest specimens and went to the checkout. Then to the CS desk, where the woman went to check the shelf. Back she came and started doing the refund. I passed her the bag with the other 3 in. Gave me a bit of a sideways look, but credited the full amount, just under £10, back to my card.
I'm not a regular Tesco user (hence the name) but I shall go in every time I pass one just to keep my hand in. Roll on Sunday, the steaks will be great with a bottle of Shiraz.0 -
Got my first free meat today - but may have been a bit fortunate. Whilst picking up the ingredients for my spag bog noticed that the rump steak was marked up at £7.98 but had a big £7.58 clip on sign on the shelf. Picked up one pack (this was my first time!), paid and trooped off to CS. The lady there offered me a goodwill £2 reduction so I pointed out to her the refund promise behind her. She said in that case she had to speak to a manager and trooped off. A few minutes later she was back with a larger pack of rump steak priced up at £7.58 but said as the shelf sign was nowhere near this pack and didn't indicate which rump steak it was meant to refer to the Produce Manager had authorised the refund. No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Just been to Tescos Extra and got:
Healthy Living Skinless Chicken Breasts 6.95/kg on pack, £6.33/kg on shelf
Bacon - Tesco unsmoked thick cut back 1.90 on pack, 1.66 on shelf
Total refund £18.56 on a shopping basket of £39.60
Happy days :jThe best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -
Just a thought on this topic. If you think that the staff may remove the shelf price to deny you the refund, it may be worth taking a picture of the price if you have a camera phone.
If they get shirty you can then prove them to be liars when you contact head office!0 -

I have done this, but now I tend to just offer to walk over with them to show them the misprice:).0 -

Wish I had done this, or accompanied the assistant, because the other week I was refused the refund when the assistant showed me the ticket from the shelf - only it wasn't the one which had been there when I took the goods  I do hate being made out to be a liar........all very embarassing![0 -
Stella ( 24 x 250ml)
was £7.99 the other week
Now special offer 2 for £16 !
My local store still had 3 big £7.99 signs up
I could not see any other price for single cases , so assumed something astray -scanned at £9.99
suppose silly me, only purchased one, but still got my £9.99 back ( FREE BEER - mmmmm )
wondered if they would have honoured more!Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Hi MSE'rs
Thought I'd report my research from last nights efforts at Tesco. Pickup up 4 packets of minced lamb (1.89/pack vs 1.89/kg on shelf!) and almost puchased 9 2kg smoked gammons priced at 8.49 (7.99 each on shelf). Thought I'd double check and the buggers came up as 7.99 when I scanned them all...What a shame. I assume it is good advice for us all to do this routinely with "finds" as if they scan at the shelf price but are labelled incorrectly you are left with a dud!Initial Mortgage February 2005 - £275,010.00 :eek:Current Mortgage November 2011 - £228,3132011 £25,410 OP target - £6,359.00 to go..Regular Savings Account (8% APR) - [STRIKE]£2400[/STRIKE] £27000 -

You are quite right. The annoying thing is the Tescos where the scanner has been broken and never repairedThe one near my mum's house is just such a Tesco and I recently got a gammon joint which was mispriced on the label but scanned correctly at the checkout - very irritating for a bargain hunter!
