I work in a bank which has a limit of 5 bags a day. The limit is more to do with the cost of processing coins than the time it takes, as people wanting to change large quantities of coins tend to need it for business rather than personal reasons, but put them through a personal account to try and avoid the charges. As long as a customer clearly isn't running a business and the branch isn't busy then we'll accept as many bags as the customer has.0

I save my coins for my 'holiday fund' too, but exchange them with the traders at my local farmers market. Ok, so they know me as a customer, and trust that I'm not going to rip them off. I change all mine that way and could change lots more as they're always running out!
You could also try people you shop with regularly, like the newsagent, shops that get through lots of small change. They're usually more than happy to take it off your hands.

Very true, as I belive they do have to pay some form of charge to get change from the bank now. My corner shop and local pub takes all my change (sometimes get a free pint out of it too!)0 -

They do have to pay at the bank, so most small traders are really happy to take the change off your hands.:j

Are you trying to pay the bags in or exchange them for notes?
I've found with my bank they will accept all my bags if I am paying them in, but will not do many if I want the cash straight away.I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.0 -
Hi all,
Thanks for all your replies.. In answer the a question I didn't turn up at the bank with bags of change I rang them first and asked them if they would oblige and they wouldn't.. much!
I rang a couple of large Post Offices and they said no, a couple of small ones said no too, but when I rang the amusement arcade (Who also said no!) the bloke I spoke to said that his local Post Office does accept change, so I rang them and they said that they will accept change except for on a Wednesday (Busy day?) and they are only 3 miles away in a housing estate, so no parking charges! Yaay!
Also, I know the greengrocer at my local shops, and the other day when I asked him if he had any change bags to spare (He had plenty for me!) he mentioned that he would be happy to take some change from me, so even better news!
Thanks again everyone, just proves how unhelpful banks still are!

They do charge a % but I find it easier than trying to get a bank/building society to do it, and you can do it without the tutting/mumbling and cold staresSam:happylove0

I worked in a convenience store once, and badly ran low on change but couldnt do anything about it. One of my freindly local customers asked if I needed any and went home to get his whisky jar! It might be worth ringing local shops and asking - often it might save them a trip out to go get change!
Failing that - id threaten to move my account, but only if the bank was quiet, id be annoyed if someone had £300 of change and i was on my lunch hour! Or pay for everything with 2p's for the next two weeks!

I have experienced this problem and apparently the banks are charged for change in some way. I have seen others become annoyed in the bank and moved accounts but it does not seem to have any affect on the bank or BS. I would say though that if I were you I would simply go to the bank on a regular basis and put the money in.
I wish there was some way we could prevent the banks from being in such a strong position over us. We put our money in their bank which earns them money and us a pittance called interest and they can dictate any interest terms that we have to pay in the event we become overdrawn etc.
There must be another way.All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -
I work at a busy pub which gets through change like water.
Would your local take any off you?
Or even corner shops may take some as it must be a hassle for them to get to the banks each day for small change.
I certainly wouldnt let a supermarket have 7% of it!!Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600
