Sainsburys supermarkets have a machine that you pour the money in and they count it and pay you in a voucher to spend in the store. I think they take a fee but I'm not sure how much.

Damn... I don't have any kids!!0 -
Those machines take 7%, which is a fair whack of your money - threatening to close your account is the best thing to do with the banks. I've had this problem before and I think it's disgusting that they won't take the money back!Sealed Pot Challenge - member 1109:j0

I'd bag it up correctly, fill in a paying in slip & go & deposit it all at once, flaming banks. should stop counting our custom for granted. :mad:0

Is the bank so strict if the coins are in rolls, not bags? Rolls let them visually check and then they are weighed to verify the correct amount of coins.
I think Post Offices might be more leniant and you can pay into your bank through them. Also, I wondered if machines in amusement arcades dispense notes or they can change them up.
I'm wracking my brain here - i know I used a machine somewhere and it didnt charge me.
Edit : Oops sorry, just read you already tried the post office!"Life is like a game of cards. How much is 7% of what you wish to change, and how much is the parking/petrol/your time cost to convert it little by little at the bank. All of a sudden 7% isn't so bad. The vouchers can be converted to 'real cash' within the store. You don't have to spend it where you do the counting, at least our Sainsburies coinstar machine allowed that.0 -
in my sainsburys the charge for the machine goes to charity so at least it wouldn't be going in their pockets. They give the charge to a local charity which is currently jospice (i'm a big penny saver too)0

I am afraid my Post Office takes mine, no problem. Perhaps it might be worth while asking in a local one rather than a big one.
I am sure only so many coins are legal tender and over that isn't but i don't know the amounts. I'm thinking about paying for the bus in pennies etc.0
