Well, I normally buy the Basics facial tissues- (far far better then Tesco value btw) but made the error of thinking I'd treat myself to something a little bit softer for my nose (like Kleenex balm soft) so I would Sainsburys own brand facial tissues- the ones that come in blue or purple or pink or green boxes.

Waste of money! The EXACT same tissues as the basics ones, for 5 times the price! I guess the box is slighly prettier and its nice that they don't all come out at the same time when you try to pull out a single tissue, but thats they only saving graces.

    Hi,

    Bad items:

Bananas (they had a weird petrol-like smell, may have just been a bad batch)

Feel free to add to these. Kudos to anyone who dares test the basics curry sauce...

    John

I've done it! I've tried the basics curry sauce. Marinated some chicken drumsticks and wings in it for a BBQ - delicious and no one would believe me when I told them how little it cost!

Also to add to the list of good basics things:

Basics cheese - can't remember if it is called Greek Style or Salad cheese but it is basically feta but they can't call it that
Houmous - absolutely no difference to the 'normal' stuff
Frozen summer berries - made a delicious coulis

Thanks to all recommendations on this thread so far I have tried and liked :

Shortbread fingers (these are so nice and approx 12p!!)
    Jaffa Cakes
    Plain Chocolate Digestives/Regular Digestives
    Cornflakes (never buying Kellogs again)
    Mayonnaise (never buying Hellmans again)
    4 dips

    Will be trying more!

We just bought and used the all purpose cleaner for the kitchen etc,it was pretty much ok really. It did what it says,it cut through the grease just, and had faint lemon smell.
Now going to try the choc digestives! We bought 3 boxes of jaffa cakes...they are the mutts nuts!
TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....
  • Have braved the value curry sauce - half a jar mixed with baked and red kidney beans - fab for a quick tasty meal! No complaints here

Recently converted to buying the double strength orange squash (53p for 1.5l) and the double strength apple and blackcurrant squash (57p for 1.5l). To be honest, its more like triple strength :D a little goes a long way and its very fruity and natural tasting - no nasty aftertaste.

Shortbread at 12p is another firm favourite although its proving to be terrible for my waistline :naughty:

I'm a big fan of the basics orange squash. I don't usually like orange but this is really nice and no nasty aftertaste for me either!

Basics Cheesecake - in the fresh cakes fridge - £1.80 usually, bought one reduced to £1.20 due to short date and it was LOVELY!
Far nicer than a Waitrose cheesecake I paid nearly £4 for the other week.
