Haven't had a chance to read whole thread, so I hope I am not duplicating, but would like to report that I find Sainsbury Kids cheese dippers far superior to dairylea dunkers in quality (in my opinion and experience) as it is a small (not too small!) amount of cream cheese, like their own brand philadelphia, plus some rather nice mini breadsticks. Little bear approves a great deal and I will have to ration him!
It isn't a basics, but own brand, but I do enjoy their basics cream cheese, also not much additives.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
My kids can't tell the difference between Heinz ketchup and Sainbugs Basics kethup in blind tests (just stuck it in the Heinz bottle unbeknownst to them and away we went. No comment at all, lol). I know you won't believe this but we tend to get through a bottle of ketchup (570g) every 2 weeks in our house! The saving per year will be over £40 (Heinz 570g bottle costs £2, Basics 560g bottle costs 40p!). Just on bloody ketchup!! Madness. I'm also heartened by the fact that the Basics ketchup contains less than a third of the salt content in the Heinz one. Who said buying 'value' items contributes to a bad diet? Buying 'bad for you' items from ANY price range contributes to a bad diet.Call me Carmine....

I have to re-recommend the tinned fruit in juice- peaches, mandarins, whatever. Really nice and v. impressive that they're in juice.
I really like the chilled fruit cocktail juice too.
Being a student I've eaten a few of the ready meals:
Lasagne: Alright, definitely needs accompanying with veg/chips as not much meat in it.
Shepherds (cottage? haha) pie: Again, alright- just needs something with it.
Fish pie: Really nice, been told that the salmon one is good too as I don't like salmon.
Macaroni Cheese: Decent, kind of bland though in comparison to Asda's own (not smartprice)
Tuna pasta: Saw this the other day, is it new? Tried it and wasn't that impressed. Though if I'd added half a tin of tuna or something it may have been alright.0 -

Not sure if someone else has mentioned this, but stay away from the basics stuffing (16p ish). Maybe each batch is different but we tried it this week and it is soooo salty tasting. I even added extra onions, bread and sage but it tasted too bad.
I'll wait a month or too and try again just in case we got a bad one.
Like many people I am seeing sainsbury's in a new light and have found things like ribena and cereals are on offer when I need them.0 -
anotherspaniard wrote: »basics bio washing powder is ok (I've been using it for some time!) but last week I bought a big pack of 3kg. it says 30 average washes..... today I bought another pack same make (basics) and SURPRISE SURPRISE the packet has reduced in size to a 2.4 kg, for the "same amount of money" and still says 30 average washes...Who does the math at Sainsburys?? 600gr less would do les washes, surelly!!!
10 wash 1kg boxes are now down to 46p from 65p but the 10 wash 800g is 65pand the big box 2.4kgs was £1.65 (I think) so bought 3 little ones making it £1.38.
