I'm not normally a fan of white chocolate, but the sainsbury's basics is absolutely lovely. Bought some for cooking and tried a square, an ended up eating the bar! Oops.0

Their Barn Eggs are currently £1.80 for 18! That would appear to be a brilliant price! We are investigating whether to start shopping at Sainsburys instead of Asda/Morrisons due to the better range of Value products (and, from all accounts, their better quality). I've just used mysupermarket to get a 'feel' for the prices ('ordered' mostly Basics stuff, granted). Ended up with a total of 60 items in my trolley for £47 (this includes a bottle of vodka and a bottle of red wine!) and the corresponding prices at the other supermarkets were:
Sainsburys £46.91
Asda £55.81
Tesco £58.09
Ocado £93.39  :rotfl:
This has greatly surprised us, but maybe the main reason is Sainsburys basics range covers a wider range then the others so the 'replaced' item in the other's baskets were 'ordinary' own brand?
Incidentally, here's how easy it is to manipulate the comparison figures. If I was to add 6 crates of 24x 440ml Carling to my Sainsburys order (on offer at £10.59 per pack), here's what happens to the figures:
Sainsburys £110.45
Asda £151.81
Tesco £162.13
Ocado £193.79

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

I found basics red grapes in store last week and they were sweet and no different to usual ones.
Have tried different basics products and use as many as I come accross within my normal weekly shopping list.
BUT the most foul, inedible item of food i've eaten in a very long time were the Basics Rice Crispies. I couldn't get beyond 3 mouthfulls. They tasted like they were made from something strange.......0 -
Hi, I see that a few of you have jars of basics curry sauce in your cupboards but have not dared to try it, go for it, it's really nice, if you like chinese curry sauce then you'll like this! I bought some a few months ago and beleive it or not it was only 4p!!!!! bargain.. i bought 6 jars and my family loved it!! Get tasting, try it you'll love it!

It is actually surprising how many Basics products they have! I never really contemplated using Sainsbury's for my shopping as I always thought it'd be more expensive than Asda or Tesco, but obviously not. I even saw a chocolate gateau at 40 odd pence!!! :T0 -
Hi everyone
What a useful thread :T
Here's the Basics I buy regularly and which I recommend:- Kiwis - small but regular kiwi taste
- Lemons - great for cooking
- Basics Digestives - great for dunking and cooking
- Custard Creams - yummy
- Jaffa Cakes - really tasty and low-calorie
- Medium Food Bags - great for packing home baked stuff away in my freezer
- Sweetcorn can - sweetcorn is sweetcorn, right?
- Carrots
- Peppers
- Basics Tomatoes - can't distinguish between these and loose ones
- Mushrooms
- Soya Milk
- Basics Whole Chicken
- Peach Slices
- Pineapple Pieces
- Instant Skimmed Milk Powder (for breadmaker)
- Sponge Scourers 15p :-)
- Natural Yoghurt 500g
- Chopped Tomatoes - great staple ingredient
- Frozen peas
- Milk chocolate - I think these bars are lovely
- White chocolate - havent bought this recently, since change of manufacturer, but will be disappointed if worse quality - these bars were really tasty
- Plain flour - noticed absolutely no difference in standard of baking when using this
- Bananas - they used to be cheaper than the loose bananas, but now the loose ones are working out cheaper weight for weight!
- Apples - found them small and tasteless
- Strawberries - hard and tasteless
- Cooked & Peeled frozen prawns - used to buy these, but then noted that some packets have not been shelled properly, so am now buying JS own-brand.
- Cereal Bars - from memory, these were full of artificial sweeteners?
- Smoked Salmon trimmings - yes, it says 'trimmings' but it looks very unappetising, like roadkill, and it has got tough bits in it.
- Cat litter - it is non-clumping and I thought was not as good as JS own-brand clumping version.
- Curry sauce - I found this quite bland and watery, but perhaps a better cook than I could jazz it up a little :-)
- Cola / White lemonade - yuck
- Instant chocolate - I thought this tasted terrible - really bland and lumpy.
- Basics onions - can be difficult finding a bag in which some haven't 'gone off'

Their basics milk chocolate is really yummy, kind of praline-y IYKWIM. Also, they have chocolate sponge puddings in the freezer section for about 89p and they are really, really nice! I feel like I should think of something healthy now... OH, their basics bananas are much better value than tesco value range as you get more for your money0
