Feel free to add to these. Kudos to anyone who dares test the basics curry sauce...

We really enjoyed the curry sauce and we've had it a few times now. We use it as a base and add meat and yogurt and a few veggies and it's spot on! We've had no problems at all!

Not sure if it has been mentioned (haven't had time to read the whole thread) but the basics fresh salmon is lovely. It's exactly the same as the own brand, you just tend to get odd shaped cuts.

Also on a fishy theme, the bags of frozen white fish fillets (generally pollock) are perfect for fish pie. I wouldn't tend to use them on their own but mixed into the pie they are lovely, and about £1.70 for a bag with 5/6 fillets in.
    Nobody I'd rather be ;)

We've hand battered and breaded the value fish fillets before and they've not been too bad. Better than asdas equivalent which tend to be full of bones despite being "boneless"

Fruit is ok as is all the veg. Apparently all fruit and veg basics are from the same batch as the normal fruit and veg, they are just odd shapes. If they are past their best then they should not be on sale. I find the apples to be very juicy. I agree with your advise though and that is try the basic range just once to see for yourselves and if you don't like then you won't be losing megabucks.

I bought some basics avocados which were small compared to the normal ones and some kiwi fruits; the avocados were very hard when I bought them but ripened over a five day period and were nicely edible when ripe and not all ripened at once. The Kiwi fruit were probably the best I've ever tasted..

The loose apples are great; quite juicy and large! The mince was good as well

    Basics unscented deodorant is good.

Tinned sweetcorn is good for sweetcorn fritters.

Fresh sausages and tinned potatoes are good as a basis for a 'stodgy curry'

Ice lollies, choc ices, Cornetto type things are great to have in the freezer in the summer. MUCH cheaper than the ice cream van.

    Fruit and veg is great.

Sliced meat is great for sandwiches, sliced chicken tikka is lovely.

    I don't skimp on tomato sauce/brown sauce/mayonnaise/chutney.

Most of my basket is Basics. I haven't listed everything as other people have already done it. ;)

Basics Cashew Nuts, cant remember the price, but delicious!

Started being sold at 99p. Went up in two or three stages to £1.49, I think (I didn't buy at that price). They were down to about £1.11 a couple of weeks ago (when I bought them again).

The basics white chocolate (100g for 27p) is actually quite good and tastes like Milky Bar. Made in Germany, but don't let that put you off. :D
