Basics chocolate pudding - Had this with Basics custard. Very, very nice and filling. Bought another this week.
  • Basics grated hard cheese is very useful - I add it in to soda bread to make a savoury version, with pepper and herbs. And it's also good for amking a savoury pastry, just replace some of the flour
  • Basics apple juice is disgusting, even my 4 year old won't drink it.

Basics sweetcorn is 19p a tin and as someone whos not that bothered about sweetcorn it's fine - I use it for tuna, also basics, and sweetcorn and mayonnaise for sarnies or jacket potatoes and get about 4 lunches out of that generously. 3-4 meals for 69p and 19p plus pence for jacket potatoes = 88p lets say 95p. making it 24p per meal - now how good does the sandwhich meal deal look now!

Also good the basics drinks cartons in apple and orange - nice as not too sweet which is good for me and cost is a pack of 9 for £1.19 making each carton 13p. I took one to drink at uni and someone on my course told me they felt really sorry for me - why? Plus no one nicks them out of the fridge at work! I'm not bothered I like them!

Also crumpets are nice at 35p a pack and muffins at 59p for 6 - just right for me as not to doughy and thick like others

Had the syrup one last night. Lovely! There is enough for two people.

You should try the 6 pack of scotch pancakes too (28p I think). I spread mine with basics lemon curd (22p?) and they are delicious.
  • Agree with JulesM, the scotch pancakes are lovely but I spread mine with golden syrup!

I agree it tastes a bit weird, but I find it works fine as a base for smoothies. I got a pineapple and a bag of slightly bruised oranges for 20p each last night, so I'm going to make smoothie out of them and my basics juice tonight. :j

I noticed in our Sainsburys last week the 500g basics margarine type spread. It was £1.20. I thought it was expensive

I remember when a 250g tub was 24p. It has shot up in price. Almost cheaper to buy branded when on offer now.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Freedom foods is just something that ensures animals have basic living conditions. As far as Barn chickens are concerned it means they have enough room to move and are given sunlight(with Barn eggs I assume it means the chickens will get some sunlight into the barn but wont be free to roam outside like free range chickens). It is by no means great but certianly better than caged chickens
I saw some tv program that showed an RSPCA freedom food 'barn egg' warehouse type place and it was very nice conditions inside, plenty of room and open windows during the day, hay bales, logs, posts etc for the chickens to jump on and off, the chickens seemed in excellent condition and very happy. I'm sure there must be other 'barn egg' places that aren't so good mind you, but i was very impressed with the place i saw on the tv progam.
