  • Tried my basics pasta bake ready meal tonight. It was ok, bit bland but nothing offensive. Don't think I'll buy it again but at the price it was worth the punt! Chicken Curry next week to try!

    Dont like

  • Found the sanitary towels ok but not as absorbent as branded versions so it did feel uncomfortable sooner. But good for when at home / on a evening

I really like Sainsbury's basic range, to me it seems of a better quality than Tesco's and Asda's own ranges :)

By picking up basic items I hardly spend over £20 which lasts me for a good 2 weeks! :D

Some of the things I have bought and liked:

-Baking potatoes (50-70p for 4) a little on the small side but taste great!
-White bread loaf (70p) (this seems to last me quite a few days)
-Grated mozarella cheese (around 1.90p) (not the strongest taste but great over pasta or baked potato!)
    -Coleslaw (again very nice)
-Muffins (85p for 4) A good friend recommended these to me and they taste absolutely delicious!
-Milk chocolate bar (27p) a friend of mine lived off this while writing his dissertation, very nice as well
-Basic Orange Cut Marmalade (27p) (very lovely and quite a strong flavour)

Definitely give the basics range a go if you haven't already!

Just to be picky - they aren't officially part of the Basics range - but they are cheap and good value- they were reduced to 50p in my local.

Just trying the instant hot choc VERY nice :D mmmm!! Smells really chocolately! I also love the creme caramels as a tasty treat...gonna try the tins of tuna...I think a lot of their fish products are caught using sustainable methods.

I like most of their basics range but our stores are too far away I normally shop in L!dl now :)

...back to the hot choc and job search!

Yup the tuna is all caught using pole and line methods. Its one of the reason I started using sainsburys. Saving cash but still slightly more ethical food.

Tried basics corned beef. Very tasty and could not tell difference between that and other brands (specially the sliced range)

I can't tell any difference between their basics: mozzarella (love this!), mangoes or bananas. Oh and printer paper, we always buy basics.

Really don't like the cola & the ice lollies are far too watery we found. I also wouldn't buy the clingfilm or as they call it 'wrapping' film. Doesn't stick to the items you're trying to film!
