Basics Marrowfat Green? Peas
I’m sure these used to be ok but the last few I have got were yellow peas in green water. They probably tasted ok but I was rather put off by the colour. I’m sure marrowfat peas should be green when properly ripe.0 -

Using my GCSE knowledge (few years ago now!!) I'd say this was to do with either the lack of sun or being grown or stored in darkness. The green is to do with the light and the lack of it shouldn't affect the other vitamins. Maybe this is why they are in the value range? (eg farmer/growers mistake?) but I can see how you'd be put off!;)0 -
Didn't they have to stop using green colouring in peas (especially mushy ones, as I remember) because there was some health reason why it wasn't very good?

Went in tonight to do my food shop and was looking for the basics chopped tinned toms. I could see plenty of the peeled tinned toms, took me ages to find the chopped as they are now in new packaging.....cartons! Anyone else found this? I find it quite bizarre as surely the tins are easier to recycle??0
-
Depends what the cartons are made out of...
Card is easier to recycle than aluminium, I believe, as long as it hasn't been treated with something the name of which I forget but which is why a lot of orange juice cartons etc are unrecyclable...
Did that make any sense at all? Hmmm...0 -

The choc digestives are our favourites, they are really lovely and don't have that weird metallic aftertaste that mcvities have now. :beer:0 -

Got some Basics unsmoked bacon yesterday £1.20. Put loads in a liver casserole and there's still half the pack left for butties. Very impressed.
