jpwhittle and bunkingoff :hello: I'm originally from St.Helens!
we sometimes had 'hotpot' served with chips - usually as left-overs the next day (IF there were any left-overs from hotpot).
we still call steamed puddings 'babby's yeds'!
ANY peas served in a chippie MUST be mushy ones. That's one thing I'm having trouble finding in Liverpool chippies - a decent portion of mushy peas. They are usually the well-boiled ones where the shells have come loose - but not gone mushy!!
Have to admit to succumbing to the curry sauce on fish and chips - but it has to be the 'fruity curry' and NOT the hot one. On the other hand - gravy on fish and chips sounds absolutely revolting.
Had a good laugh about the 'Kirkby Cuisine' of pot noodle and chips. Actually overheard a young couple shopping in our local ASDA and she was asking him what he wanted for his tea. They both looked very smartly dressed and were deep in discussion about what culinary delights they fancied that evening - they finally left with two pot noodles!0 -

There are loads of good places in south Liverpool, particularly in Garston......I used to live in Anfield and there was a boss chippy called Georges on Priory Road but sadly it is no more :mad:0 -

Mmmmmmmm soup and chips  not had that in years!
Also hot pork pie either in a bowl of soup (usually Heinz vegetable) or with hot mushy peas and sliced onions soaked in vinegar on top.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Soup, pie and peas reminds me of Australia's contribution to world cuisine, the Pie Floater. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

A bloke came into the butchers where I work a couple of weeks ago and bought some sausages.
He said that for his dinner that evening, he was having, sausage & mash with Heinz vegetable soup poured over it ~ how delish does that sound!!
To me this just sounds like lazy sausage casserole!
Edit: I wasn't implying that it doesn't sound delish lol**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
