I have just come across this thread and it took me back 40 years or more! I used to visit a friend and she asked me if I wanted soup and chips for supper. I expected them in separate bowls and couldn't quite believe it when they came together! However, I really enjoyed it and it became a regular supper whenever I visited her - my favourite combination being pea and ham soup and chips. This has set my mouth watering and I may just treat myself to a bowlful at lunchtime! I have some home-made pea and ham soup in the freezer, all ready and waiting! Mmmmm real comfort food!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

This thread is making me so hungry! It sounds lovely - I love curry sauce or gravy on chips so it stands to reason that a nice thick broth would be divine too!
Gotta try this.

I'm from Blackburn Lancashire originally and never had chips and soup, although it does sound rather tasty.
However every Saturday when we were little we would go to our Gran and Grandads and Gran would have Hollands Meat and Potatoe pies ready for us with Heinz Mushroom soup poured over them.....Delicious!
Even now I live in Stoke-On-Trent I will often buy a Wrights pie ( Not even close to a Hollands though ) and have a tin of said soup over.
Totally agree with Phunkles definitely toast with soup, never bread
Down here in Stoke they have Sausage, Mash and a Bolied egg! It's quite nice when the yolk dribbles down the mash, athough you can't beat Sausage, Mash, Mushy peas and gravy yum!Mum to 3 gorgeous kids
Hoping to have a better year this year.
