Lose Weight 19

My biggest challenge is to try to educate my 2 year old daughter so that she has a fighting chance of not having the same weight/image issues that I have. Does anyone else worry about this?
I think all us 'weight-loss mums' worry about this. I have tried to ensure that my DS 13 and DD 11 see that we are now all eating a 'healthy diet' rather than the fact that I have been 'on a diet'. They have seen me eat 3 meals a day with 2 snacks + treat in the evening and have seen me shed 3 stones.
They can see the difference that eating healthy and minimising 'junk food snacks, sweets and chocs' has had. I am more mobile now and am no longer the frumpy mum hiding in baggy jumpers.
No food is banned in the house, but they have learnt that moderation is the key.
I just hope the lesson sticks and they don't end up with any eating 'issues' later. They watch programmes like Freaky Eaters, Super Slim vs Super Fat, The Diets that Time Forgot and are very savvy about what constitutes a healthy diet and what is just 'silly'.

bails that sounds like a great idea. Having been 'off' my diet for 2 weeks, Id actually recommend it. I was pleasantly surprised at how sensible
I was when I wasnt pointing everything, its really made me feel pretty positive about managing when I get to goal.
And on the subject of being off my diet, as of tomorrow Im back on. Ive decided 2 weeks is long enough. I weighed myself this morning and Ive lost 3lbs so Im pretty delighted.
So thats me, back on WW, back on track, back on the chart, well just back!! lol
Oh Lord I forgot the biggest news.... that 3lbs loss has at last taken me over my 10 stone mark :j0 -
Congrats starlight_xx. An AMAZING acheivement. Not that much more to go now...? You must be almost half the woman you once were...0

well done starlight! Bails, really pleased to hear you've found a path your happy with - but don't be going anywhere!
Interesting point on 'weight loss mums' - my mum is overweight, but I've never known her be on diets. My downfall was living in a sweetshop and learning to binge eat - something i've never gotten over. I've been trying to figure this out for a log time, and I reckon it's not self esteem or anything like that - I am just very greedy and don't know when to stop.
Speaking of which, had a lazy weekend which involved lots of food, drink and scrabble. Unlikely that one has balanced the other so i'll just have to take the hit on weds!
George ( have no idea how you spelled it, sorry) You are doing the right thing by taking action but make sure it is the right action. Although a wii is loads of fun, it's no substitute for proper exercise. As so many others have said, don't stress about your shape and size too much, but make sure you eat mostly the right stuff, get your five a day and plenty of water, and try and be a bit more active - do you get the bus to school? can you get off a couple of stops early or something?
lol at vix. it's probably not very pc but gay is a favourite adjective of ours too.0 -

Thank you for the kind words guys! I'm glad I was right not to stress about the holiday gain and just get myself back into a routine asap. It worked
Bails, when you say you hope you'll stick around, I hope you do too! It's a forum to dicuss weight loss, whether that happens to include the scales and tape measure or not.
I like your idea of perspective, and your chosen method doesn't fill me with dread at all, I think it's a perfectly sensible option for anyone to consider. Millions of people keep in trim with no scales/framework/diet trappings around them. It's a method I will no doubt be using myself in the future.
I really admire how you are able to express yourself and get your point across in your posts, I think I said that right at the start when I joined and I feel the same now. Some of my own life choices are seen as unconventional and I wish I could defend them with the same eloquency as you do.
Starlight - congratulations, you have every reason to be delighted with yourself!A real inspiration!

I don't measure what I eat but i think that not weighing myself on the scale at least occasionally woudl be the beginning of the end of me. I take such a lot of motivation for positive results on the scale and made the mistake once of starting a diet without weighing myself, saying that the numbers don't mean anything but it is how you look that counts. I didn't achieve much! However, the scale gives you a measure of what you are achieving. Sometimes, you can feel really fat only to find you have lost weight on the scale (and feel really motiviated by that) and it is also a way to reign in any lapses if applicable. I am not saying what anyone should do, I am just saying how I would feel not weighing in.0

Wow Starlight, well done Missyg.
Bails ---- Don't go away, please. We need you and your wisdom here.
G3org3 - you've had a lot of good advice here ... I wish I'd been able to 'talk' to people like this when I was 12. Just one more thing to add, have you talked to your mum/dad and do they know that you're posting on here? Maybe some of the advice you've been offered would help them to help you too.0 -
Starlight, that really is a staggering achievement, well done you! :T:T It was really good to hear that you ate well and lost weight while being 'off plan' too.
Efrieze, I can completely understand your thoughts about not weighing - I've had them too! That's why this is a leap of faith, an experiment in believing in myself enough to bring about the changes I want in my life. I guess I have gathered some strength from my determination to overcome my illness and the success I've already achieved there, and I'm rolling it out across all areas of life. I may fail miserably but I may also succeed
Missy, thankyou so much, you made my day! :grouphug: (I used to bat away compliments, can you see I'm trying to accept them :rotfl:). Sadly, I perhaps wasn't so eloquent in explaining about leaving, or rather not! Thankyou for all your support, I do hope to stay around - my reason for 'hoping' is that it could prove quite challenging for me, surrounded by talk of weight etc. I may need to be a slightly less frequent visitor initially, so that I am not full of conflicting thoughts and feeling 'torn' if you see what I mean? It may be unnecessary though.
One thing I will say is that I feel so much 'freer' so far. It's only been about a week so v early days but the shift from thinking about my weight to appreciating who I am (and that includes what I look like) is very liberating.
This is a step into the unknown for me so we'll just have to see where it leads...The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000
