    I take home approx £2,2oo per month & my husband gives me around £300.Is this meant to be his half of the bills, because obviously this is way too low. Half the mortgage would be this on its own.

    BILLS
    Mortgage=£778 Interest only or repayment, can you get a mortgage holiday to pay off some of the other debt
    Rent=£202what is this for
    Loan=£371 apr, how much and time left please, help us to see whether overpaying is a plan
    Ctax=£161you can ask for this over 12 months not 10 to spread the load.
    Gas=£30bit high
    Elec=£15
    Boiler=£27What is this?
    Tv lic=£11.60
    Pet ins=£11.90
    Orange=£45
    Cooker=£25Is this HP for a cooker, if so what is the APR and how long left to pay?
    Travel=£50do you need this and a car?
    Petrol=£110
    Food=£300++how many is this for? If just the two of you, you could slice at least £50 off that, by meal planning, using up what you already have in the house, cutting down on treats etc.
    Water=£16

    There is nothing down for building/contents insurance, servicing, mot, car tax, birthday/xmas savings, dental, optical, prescription costs.No sky or cable, broadband, landline phone either. You need to calculate the yearly cost of these and divide by 12 to give you a true picture of what you need to have as income every month.

    DEBTS
    Are these all in your name? Did you both benefit from what was bought with them, if yes, is your OH contributing to them. APR'S would be helpful

    First direct Loan=£17,000 (another 50 mths to do)
    Barclaycard=£9,000
    MBNA cc=£6500
    Sainsbury cc=£3,500
    Halifax cc=£3,700

    Have a look at www.whatsthecost.com to see what your debt free date is and what to pay off first.
    Total £40,000

    Should i call CCCS & do a DMP or should I try for a massive loan ? No don't do a loan. You may be able to rejig you budget, or else could you get another job to make up the short fall, could your OH? What about selling everything not nailed down on ebay, books on amazon etc?
    Any help/advice will be sincerely appreciated xx

    best of luck

    Thanks a lot for these replies...they really calm me down.:p
    I know I am in debt but I have been paying First Direct £150 a month in charges so they are making something out of me !
    But youre right ;they do not have to be so very harsh & aggressive...I actually think the guy was enjoying every single second of every question..I think I may complain....I was shaking when I came off the phone.
    I,m trying to find how to post an Soa.....gulp xx

    I now treat the people on the phone in the same manner they treat me. If they are nasty then they get told that i think they are being rude or nasty orpatronising etc and do they want me to talk to them in the same manner? Most of the time they calm down unless they work for the A&L but then they are all a bunch or A*** les.
    finish the brew then just write down what you have coming in and what you spend that on... i.e. your outgoings and post it here and we will rip it to shreds... oops sorry help you with a smile,lol..... honest... with a smile
  • Could your husband give you more than £300 as you seem to paying everything?

    What kind of mortgage do you have? Is there any chance for a payment holiday for a couple of months or can you temporarily change to interest only while the crisis eases?

    This journey has culminated in First direct saying it was going to withdraw my banking facility(close my account ) last friday when I asked them for a £1000 overdraft for 3 months....
    I have always managed to pay everything ..until friday.,those unexpected vet bills just finished me off .
    Here is my SOA...i hope one of you wise & lovely people might have an idea b4 I plunge into the Loan abyss : ))

    I am shocked & feel rather ill ...its unbeleivable how it can all snowball.

    Call CCCS, the CAB or payplan DO NOT pay anything now or in the future for debt advice.
    hope that helps.

  • Could you try ringing the bank again and hoping to get a more sympathetic operator and ask for maybe 2 weeks grace while you get the pet insurance money through and also look into a payment holiday or interest only with your mortgage. I know my friend was recently given 2 weeks grace with her account to get in in order before they took any action.

    Also go over to the oldstyle board for help with reducing your food bill... is it just for the 2 of you?

    Can you get a better deal on your mobile or change to PAYG? I pay £22 per month and receive £180 allowance for that.
  • Hiya,he doesnt earn as much as me about £1000 per month & he has no debts at all.He does not know of the extent of my debts but I have told him about the bills ,but he says it was my choice to buy a flat (in my name).He is changing jobs so hopefully should help out more....
    The CCs spiralled 2 years ago when he was off sick for 4 months & I had to take money out of them to pay the rent as he had virtually zero income

    I felt it was sensible as the mortgage was the same as we were paying rent....as i only bought 75% morgage & 25% rent I also have to pay £202 rent as well as £778 mort ......
    Thanks for all the advice ..its really brilliant xx
