'Never heard of any problems' with Shell in recent years, now Tesco, erm just months ago.
As said my memory appears to be better than yours, so one mistake which they admitted makes them a bigger risk than buying from another supplier who also made a mistake which affected thousands of motorists in the past and would not admit there was a problem until it was proved and they had to withdraw the product.
I was one of the lucky ones who, although I buy all my fuel from supermarkets, was not affected by the recent supermarket fuel contamination and I feel sorry for anyone that was, but on the basis of one accidental mistake I am not prepared to condemn all fuel supplied by them, thousands buy their fuel every day without any problems, the risk is no greater than from any other supplier.0 -
Well i'd just to like to say i've ran my car on only tesco fuel the last 2 years and had no problems, consumption stays the same also..0

"Tesco, like most of the supermarket petrol stations initially started selling branded petrol, either Gulf, Texaco or BP but in the late 80s their own brand fuel went on sale. As well as Tesco branded petrol stations at their stores, Tesco have also opened 'Express' stores at many Esso sites.
It was announced in October 2005 that Tesco was to buy 21 supermarket forecourt stations from Morrisons, making them the UK's number one supermarket fuel retailer with approximately a third of all supermarket based forecourts.
Tesco supplies its forecourts with Super Unleaded 99 Octane, one of the highest-octane petrol available in the UK. The fuel is a blend of 5% bio-ethanol, and has been available since mid-November 2005, at selected filling stations across the UK. This Fuel is supplied to Tesco by Greenergy and a list of stored selling it can be seen here.
Tesco has a 25% stake in Greenergy, who are investing in a new big scale biodiesel plan development due to open in late 2006 which will produce 100,000 tonnes of biodiesel a year.
Early in 2006, 181 of Tesco's filling stations in the South and North West were converted to biodiesel and they are the first major retailer to incorporate biofuel into standard petrol and diesel with no extra cost to the consumer."Bring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

.
Whatever, you carry on buying at Tesco then, I will carry on buying at my local Shell Garage, I feel safer that way.;)
I have never had a problem with Shell over many years of using it.0 -
You're quite frankly a moron and if you're a mechanic, you're a poor one. There is no way on this earth you could alter the fuel so much that you get less than 50% of the mileage out of a tank and still manage to keep the engine running.
I don't know where you learned to be a mechanic but it certainly wasn't anywhere that's worth a damn if your apparent lack of knowledge is an example of the standard they're churning out.
Here's something to ponder. I run an old Ford Capri. It's on points with a carburettor and not a single ECU in sight. There's nothing that can compensate for fuel. I've used BP, Shell, Esso, Tesco and Asda and all of them return roughly the same economy and I've not needed to adjust the timing to stop the Tesco fuel from pinking which, if your moronic claim was correct, is what I'd need to do wouldn't I?
Here's a hint..stop telling people you're a mechanic because you aren't.
Right, I was all geared up to give you a right forum bashing after all that rudeness, but I feel that it wouldn't be worth it because at the end of the day you DO drive a ford capri and what's worse is that you actually admit to it.
What I was saying earlier was just a maybe, sort of throw it in the air. It didn't deserve such a rude response, but hey thats capri drivers for you!
here's a hint bruv get a better car maybe one made within the last decade.
and as for the mechanic jibe at me I have a diploma in it, and I even know a little about your rudimentary carburettor system and your quaint ignition timing system ,like on your on your crapi its obsolete now thou.get with the times pops and get that inefficient tree killer off the road.0 -

sorry to add but i do notice a difference in driving and consumption if i use supermarket fuel.My husband has worked with cars all his working life and knows when i have filled the car up at the supermarket. for starters the car doesn't drive as smoothly and seems to like bunny hopping after filling up at supermarkets whereas when i use shell or texaco the car runs sweet. my car is serviced regular and only use magnetec oil. I drive approx 350 miles a week.0
