I'm a mature student whose railcard is up for renewal...has anyone had any luck getting this dealin a station as I can't apply online (being over 26)? I would be gutted if I couldn't get the discount even though I'm eligible...0

I'm a mature student and the on-line form is currently only set up for 18-26's. Can I benefit from this promotion another way?0

Fantastic, mine ran out at the end of Feb so this has come just in time!Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

It's unfortunate that mature students cannot apply for this, but it's not surprising; the seeds were sown when BR bodged it by merging student railcards with young person's railcards in the 1980s.
It's a scandal that ordinary people who want to use trains regularly cannot have their own railcard. As I'm not over 60, disabled or travelling with kids, this remains the only railcard I can squeeze into, which is why I have been a mature student for one day per year for the last 15 years. Not saving £12 on this occasion is far outweighed by the convenience and benefits the card brings. I would encourage any regular rail traveller to study the application leaflet closely and buy one.0 -
Hi everyone
We've spoken to National Railcard and as mature students can't apply online sadly they're not able to make use of this offer. National Railcard are looking into making mature students' applications available online in the future though.
I've updated the top post.

don't forget if you live in the southeast you can get a network railcard.
it is for all ages, and has different restrictions but in most cases gives you 1/3rd off.
Costs £20 but if you have a annual season ticket (gold card) you can buy one for your partner for £1. I did this recently when I renewed my gold card, there was no application form or photograph needed either.
If you go to http://www.railcard.co.uk there is all the details.
Also sort of on the subject don't forget that most if not all stations take Amex for tickets, I used a 5% cashback amex card to get £160 off an annual gold card0 -
My OH has just been offered a job in Newport so he will be travelling by train from Bristol every day. Does anybody know if he can use the discount towards season tickets?Still trying to find my way around the forum...0

Brilliant - mine expires on the 19th and cost me £20 last year! I've saved well over £50, if not £100 with it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Students over 26 cannot apply online and hence, cannot get this offer. Also, those who are 26 and applying at the station need to have a special section to be filled by the school to prove you are actually a student in order to buy a Young Person's Card. So showing them a valid student card is not enough, you will need to bring a form back to school and have your teacher or whatever sign a section AND school stamped on the form proving you are a full time student and also sign and school stamp the back of your photograph to prove that is you. WOW!
Sadly, that's what I will have to go through next week when I apply for one...0 -
Oh no!!!! I knew I should have checked. Pah. Just paid the whole lot0
