Thanks Aussie, I checked Delia's recipe for hot cross buns, and she says 1 tbsp as well, so that's what I will use.
I'll have a go at making them later, but can't eat any as I'm on a diet
Hope OHs mouth is OK - don't go tempting him with your anzacsYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Dh just got home from the dentist $500 lighter. He was eating tea and his mouth was still numb and he chewed on the bottom of his inside lip. You should see it, it's a mess. Wait until the numbness wears off.Ouch. Byeeeeeeeeeeee
Aw shucks!:o thanks aussie but I think the dishcloth your teddy is holding (on shabby chic thread) is really pretty! Hope you feel better soon and oh recovers soon from his sore mouth!
Does anyone remember grandparents knitting dishcloths from string? I am sure mine did and have been saving all the pretty twine that abel and cole generously wrap around the boxes, more than enough for the garden so maybe I will have a go at knitting that lot up next! It would be very green of me to re use it, I must get [STRIKE]knotted[/STRIKE] knotting!:D
Just back from the puppy walk and she now looks more like "what a mess" Frank Muirs afghan puppy than the cute pooch whose piccie I posted up yesterday! so I will have to groom her but need to find a large treat to last the necessary large amount of time that will take! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

CATZ - I remember knitting dishcloths with string; it was how my Mum taught me to knit!
AUSSIE - thanks for the recipe!
Happy Anniversary to Mr and Mrs Csarina!! Have a great day, both of you!
Well, I just put everything ready to make cakes and had run out of a couple of bits so I had to dash to the local shop. Now I'm back here with a coffee and will do the cakes in a minute.
I still haven't made the phone calls DH asked me to make to suppliers so I really should get those done next. The house has had a good clean and that always makes me feel more positive and uplifted. I'm hoping to get a couple of hours knitting this afternoon. Besides doing the wedding favours for DS2's wedding, I have decided to make them a tiny teddy bear. DH and I have one which is about thirty years old now. He has a HM suitcase and goes everywhere with us. He has also been on holiday with my boys and their families and, when DS1 worked in Zambia, Nepal, India and various other strange places, he took the teddy with him. We always take photos of him and he has quite an album all to himself. I thought I would do one for DS2 and his GF when they get married in August; I shall make a suitcase for him and tell him that he's to go on all their holidays - including their honeymoon (he'll be very diplomatic!) in Marbella. I'm hoping they will start their own tradition. I didn't think to make one for DS1 and his wife when they got married and I could kick myself because I know both my boys will appreciate the thought; they always make sure Ted doesn't miss any trips abroad. I shall make one for DS1 and DIL for their anniversary in June. It'll will be great to start the next generation of family traditions off.
Anyway, I'm waffling - I'm going to make those calls then the cakes then lunch and, by then, I'll be wanting a snooze!
See you all later.

Pooky the chicken terraine sounds great - might try that this evening as I have a glut of cold chicken left from yesterday and it would be something different. And hot cross buns... mmm... now I'm really hungry.
Got to pop out in a second, have to pick up some stuff from the market and might pop into a charity shop I walked past on the way in this morning - they had a vase in the window that I want to check what it is and let them know they shouldn't sell it for £3 if I'm right. I might not be, but I hate it when charity shops get fleeced - if the item was donated they should get the value of it.yay - another rock chick. Fancy an OS meet at this year's reading festival
Sounds cool! Was very OS last year and took a picnic - :rotfl: just can't face the noodle van!:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

morning! Thought i'd better post before reading the rest of the thread, or I'll be too tired by the time I get to the end.
We had a lovely time in Cornwall - Catowen, I had to wave to you on the way back, as we travelled down via Launceston. On the way back roadworks meant we ended up going via Plymouth instead. I'd have liked to get out and see the Hoe again (we lived in Plymouth for a couple of years when I was little and I can remember bits here and there!) but DH really wasn't up for it after spending sitting for ages in a traffic jam!
We did do one thing though which may sound a bit morbid but was lovely - in Somerset we stopped off at a little village called Babcary where my Dad's parents are buried. I'd never been there before (or if I did. I was too young to remember - my Nan lived at Charlton Adam, nearby) and it was beaufiful. They are both in the same grave and there were primroses growing alongside. The sun was shining, and the only sound was birdsong. I was really glad we'd gone there, and gave DH a big hug and kiss for going off the main road when he was in a lot of pain with his back.
I'm still tired from our trip, but have done some cleaning in the bathroom this morning at any rate! I'm trying to do a little bit at a time. When we got back we found that DS had hoovered throughout, including the bedrooms, so that was a nice surprise!
Smokybabe - you and your family are very much in my thoughts and prayers.
(((((HUGS))))) to everyone else in need.
Off to read the rest of the thread now!

Hi everyone. Please can I ask for some advice? Does anybody have a yoghurt maker please? Are they any good? does it work out cheaper than shop bought? and Can you make low fat yoghurts in a yoghurt maker?
Also: I have heard alot about these dishcloths... can somebody please post some instructions and what kind of yarn/thread/string do you knit them with please?? We go through dishcloths really quickly for some reason.

Tattycath I make yogurt in a wide mouth thermos and have found it worked much better than the yogurt maker I borrowed from a friend but it really is trial and error I feel, if you can borrow one I would advice that. I picked up my thermos in a charity shop for about 50p.
For the dishcloths I am using a crochet cotton double knitting thread made by Hayfield which I bought on ebay. the main thing is to use cotton as it washes up ok. With number 11 needles I cast on 50 stitches, knit 4 rows in plain knit, then 14 pattern repeats in basket weave keeping the first and last 5 stitches to plain knitting for the edging. 4 more rows of knit and then cast off. I am making the next one a bit bigger with 60 stitches. You don't have to do a pattern as they look good just in plain garter stitch as well., my next one will be garter stitch. There is a site somewhere with lots of free patterns to download. It is very theraputic and helps ease the arthritis pain in my fingers.
Right must go start off the sc veg curry and have some lunch!
