How much money to give as wedding gift?

There are lots of threads on here about asking for money and its very subjective... I personally cringe at the thought of asking for money, or even including a gift list in with the invites, or even worse, a tacky poem asking for cash, however, its becoming more and more common place now...

I didn't ask for anything, when people asked my parents etc, they said that we had all we needed and a present was necessary, still, most people didn't come empty handed and we got a !!!! load of cash. vouchers and a few presents.

If you put nothing, I think people are more inclined to bring cash nowadays....
