If that doesn't work properly do this again from your earlier post:

Put the ME disk in when asked and follow the prompts. If the original ks.sys file is corrupt in your C:/Windows/System32/Drivers it will stop your audio working; it should replace it from the installation CD.

If that doesn't work I've got one more trick up my sleeve.

The Audio thing didn't work massively!

Total froze my system and had to re-install AOL and eventually I got rid of A-Deck that kept freezing the whole system :(

Will try the ks.sys thing now

I have just had my hard drive and Mother Board replaced but after tattoing the PC and recovering, I have no sound.

I have an engineer booked as I am having CD Rom replaced and he will also look at this then.

In the meantime, any idea what I can do?

I'm using Windows ME and my Motherboard is MSI 6340 Florida if that helps

    Thanks!

ps - error code is 28 - drivers not installed. I do not have a CD with drivers on for this. I cannot find the right drivers

Easy find a progarm called drivergenius this will id your sound card as well as many others, and then allows you to download the drivers for them.

That tells me I have realtek soundcard rather than a VIA one.

    Totally confused now

Tried the realtek driver, but same probs.

No sound and my AOL doesn't work and have had to re-install.

Gonna stop d/l and installing as it's causing other issues and it looks like another recovery is needed in 8 days time anyway.

Thanks for all the help, if anyone has suggestions as to what I can tweak on my PC that may help, I'm all ears :)

At least Cruz Azul won in the footie :)

    Final shot.

This is the spec for the sound system on your motherboard from the PB support site:
    Sound sub-system:
Integrated on the VIA Technologies' VT1611A 18-audio audio codec.
    DirectSound AC'97 2.1 Audio
Inputs and Outputs: Stereo inputs for line-in, CD audio, and MODEM-in, mono input for microphone, MPU-401 (UART mode) interface for wavetable synthesizers and MIDI devices. Integrated dual game port.
Mixer Features: mixer with stereo for line, CD audio, auxiliary, music synthesizer, digital audio (wave files), and mono for microphone and speakerphone.
Features: 3D stereo expansion for simulated surround, Power management support.

The VT 1611A is embedded in the VT82C686A southbridge of your MSI-6340 Florida motherboard. The motherboard has the Apollo KT133 chipset.

My last suggestion is to download the VIA 4-in-1 drivers for the chipset and install.

Go to this link and scroll down to the third blue box entitled "Retro chipset VIA 4in1 drivers" and click on the 4-in-1 image to download.

These version 4.43 drivers are the same ones as you will find on the PB support site for your Imedia 6200 here.

In your Device Manager does it show "VIA AC 97 Audio Device" under Sound, Video and Game Controllers? If it does, what's its status?

    Finally, an engineer.

    Replaced CD drive :)

However, he thinks the sound issues are a software issue, and his company only deals with hardware issues

Reluctant to recover, as had trouble before, although I now have new CD drive....

Will solider on with no sound........not a huge issue, would be nice, but PC works so it'll do for now!
