I have just had my hard drive and Mother Board replaced but after tattoing the PC and recovering, I have no sound.

I have an engineer booked as I am having CD Rom replaced and he will also look at this then.

In the meantime, any idea what I can do?

I'm using Windows ME and my Motherboard is MSI 6340 Florida if that helps

Thanks!

ps - error code is 28 - drivers not installed. I do not have a CD with drivers on for this. I cannot find the right drivers

Click Start then Run and type in dxdiag. When the program runs you should be able to go to the "Sound" tab and it will show what your sound device is there.

http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/, download and install then go through the options to to get info on sound card chipset/manufacture then google the chipset/manufacture for drivers.

Sorry, me being dull. Dxdiag won't detect your sound card if there's no drivers.

Go here and download "MSI Live Update." Install and run it and it will automatically detect and update all your drivers for you. See how that goes.

    Thanks TOG and rogerramjet.

Tried all suggestions but nothing :( and to boot, my AOL won't now start :(

Can only get in via the dialer, which is okay, but means I can't load up AOL to get e-mails etc and have to go to aol.co.uk instead

Go to the motherboard site and download the sound driver for your motherboard, double click on the file to make it run.
It should install the drivers automatically for you and then you should have sound.
Also make sure the cable is in line out and not the headphone or mic ssocket.
I'm not poor i'm just skint

    Tried it all and nothing

Tried the cable in all 3 sockets, one of them made a noise as if the speakers were trying to work but nothing :(

erm, not wishing to sound patronising, are you sure that they device isnt muted and volumes are up? this would be my first port of call if looking at someone elses machine.

    start menu->all programs->accessories->entertainment->volume control...

check that nothing is ticked for "muted" and the volumes arent set too zero.
