No Sound On PC

Is your PC a Packard Bell?
Have they replaced the motherboard with exactly the same model as previous?
IF yes, try this link http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=6&CHIP=6&COM=2
The Driver you need is the last one.
VIA® KPM133 VGA Drivers0 -
Thanks guys, nothing works though I'm afraid.
It is a Packard Bell and according to their support line it's the same motherboard installed.
I'll wait until the engineer comes out on the 8th and see what happens.
Bet i've got the speakers plugged in wrong or something0 -
if he's a half decent engineer then they should be able to fix no prob. (for reference your speakers should be plugged into what is most likely to be a green socket (if they are colour coded)0

It's always possible the engineer hasn't connected up the little wires inside the case. There must be sound onboard if you have the connectors showing at the back of your pc and they are not in the PCI slot.
Do you get sound if you plug a pair of earphones into the green socket at the back? If you do then your speakers are not working but the pc sound is.0 -

Yep, the green one it is in, tried all 3 as I did not know 100% but nothing happens in the green slot0 -

Tried the earphones just then - no sound. So we can rule out the speakers being duff?
When I put the earphones/speaker lead into the microphone socket, the earphones/speakers make a noise as if something is being connected.
Hopefully the next engineer will look more into it. I was told over the phone it may need another recovery, but that's cool as I'm only d/l what I can put onto CD/floppy anyway and I have 9 days to do so.0 -
Don't know if I should add, when a noise is meant to be made (When new e-mail comes through or the noise to let you know that a download has finished) their is a clicking noise in the base unit of the PC.
When I try music, nothing at all.0 -
At the back of your computer you have line in, line out, and mic.
Line out simply means sound out
Line in is for tape recorders record players and keyboards etc
Mic is for microphone
You have no sound because you have no drivers installed, the drivers tell the computer how the sound works and how many inputs outputs it has.
What frequencies the music is set too 44.1 wav mp3 audio 128 kbs etc, so without the drivers? The computer will not work.
The engineer should of made sure everything was working and installed properly before he left.
He seems to me as though he rushed the install and I would ring them up and complain.
You won’t be able to load the volume control panel because you have no drives installed.
Once the drivers install you will hear a thud and it will tell you to reset your computer.
Just look for your motherboard on the site and download the drivers, double click the file and it should run and install the driver.
That’s all you need to do, once the drivers are installed make sure none of the volumes settings are muted.
Put in a cd and play it, normally the line out is the middle connection or green one.
The wires from the CD player attaches to the motherboard, you always have two connectors for two CD players.
But these days the music plays down the ide cable, if your computer still doesn’t play with the drivers installed and the volume isn’t muted? Then the pc may be naffed.I'm not poor i'm just skint0
