Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • Just ordered a Pnasonic 253 on Ebay for £45+ £13 p&p=£57. It is my Christmas pressie from DH. He says I am not allowed to use it before Xmas which is a bit tight but I'm still feeling v.v. pleased as I already have quite a few gadgets taking up space in the kitchen, includuding recently purchased slow cooker.
earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:

I just got one second hand and I love her dearly! I was wondering about using honey to replace the sugar or oil to replace the butter as I generally have these in the house more... what difference does it make and what quantaties should i use?
  • I noticed in one of Saturday's supplements that the SD253 was only given a 2-star rating as opposed to a much higher one for the Fastbake bread machine (but, as usual, when I go to find the article to quote from it - I can't find it!).

I love mine and find it gives great results - but that could be about to change. I put on my bread dough (the 45 minute pizza cycle, as I like to finish it off in the oven) and went out for a quick walk. Just returned and went to get the dough and guess what - I had forgotten to add any water!!! Well I've just added the necessary amount of water and put it back on and I'm hoping for the best. What are the bets on it turning out OK? I'd hate to have to bin it and start again.

Shouldn't you try it out as soon as possible to make sure its working?

    .

This was a very poor article (it was in the Times). Each bread machine had a different tester. If the same person had tested all the machines with a basic recipe and the same ingredients it might have had more meaning.
As it was the tester of the Panasonic made a wholemeal onion loaf and got poor results - perhaps if this same person had tested the MR she'd have got poor results too?
Also she said her ingredients cost £15!!!!???
The tester of the MR Fastbake gave it 5 stars even though she couldn't get it to work overnight!

I have found that the only thing you need to measure accuratley is the amount of water - and even that can change according to the brand of flour used. I have used honey - volume for volume - and use oil as part of the water volume, but I also use differing amounts of water to the booklet.

  • How good is the 253 - well I am pleased to report that my bread turned out great despite being through the programme once without water!

Re the Times article - I found the £15 figure astonishing. Surely she meant £1.50 - using the finest ingredients!?!

I can't imagine how it could possibly cost £15 for a loaf. It must have been a misprint.
