I'm still in the experimental stage with my Ultimate, but I follow the basic White Bread recipe on the enclosed card, but I do tend to mix my flour. I usually put some wholemeal flour in (about 200gms per 600gms of flour) and have been known to mix strong white bread flour with tesco value plain as I hadn't enough strong left. It was fine. I only time I made a true white loaf, I was testing the different 'bakes' and cheap plain v. strong white flour and did a pale crust so they weren't cooked enough. However, even if I add wholemeal I still cook it on the white loaf programme (not rapid) with a medium crust (our preference).

Try the fruit bread - to die for :) And to think a very small sliced fruit loaf in Tesco is over £1 I believe.

I've also made the chocolate cake - Mmmmmmmmmmmm Going to make the ginger one next I think.

I love my new Panny which i bought after reading all the threads on here. DH thought it would be another toy I didn't use(said in a superior tone - him with a cellar full of DIY toys sorry essential tools- which don't see the light of day that often)

feeling smug because it's being used every other day
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    What a great word! :D

What's the betting it becomes an Old Style word and has to be added to our list of TLA's?

Oi you - watch who you're calling "Squonky" -- I've got a baking tin and I'm not afraid to use it!!!!!

OOh dear I made an extemely squonky loaf last night in my new panasonic. It was supposed to be corn bread - measured it all out etc, waited the four hours to open it up to find - well to be frank, a right old mess.

Id only gone and left the bloomin' kneading blade out!!! I find it quite touching that the Panasonic had attempted to bake it!:)

I have repeated the whole process tonight and its in the machine, but I just noticed the recipe said instant polenta and I have some kind of polenta (cheapo Morrisons) so I dont know if its instant, and whether it will work out ok?

Anyway if not, it will be third time lucky I hope :)

Go through your recipe book and on every recipe in big print write...

    Fit The Blade.

I did in mine and it works more often than not :)

I'm in the same boat, with breadmaker envy. I've tried to look for ways to justify it to myself but I can't really. So I'm doing without after all it is supposed to be about money saving as opposed to money spending. The bread out of my breadmaker tastes better than the shop bought stuff so it will have to do for now. I know everyone says that the bread from a panasonic is soooooo much better but how do they really know? Have they done a blind taste test using another breadmaker? It could just be your brain believing the hype - if you believe something is going to taste better then it will. So yes, I can't justify the expense of a new breadmaker when there's nothing wrong with the old one.

Arrrrrhhhhhh......... I can tell you have NEVER tried panasonic bread!! Coz then you would understand! Infact yo may only have to have two loaves sitting side by side and the panasonic one will stand out!

For myself I had a BM before that I thought was fine..then it broke I decided on the dream machine and the diifference is immense! However..... I think if it had not broken I would have carried on with my wee solid loaves dreaming of a panasonic. So I do understand that you will have stay with your old one.

Maybe the pan will wear out!!!

My pan cost me a whole four quid to replace :( It's just too darn economical this machine <sob> I might have to wait years and years for it to break down properly.

Stop stop stop stop, you've all got me drooling for fresh HM bread now. You have no idea how long it took me to banish it to the back of the cupboard (putting on too much weight). Damn you old stylers for being so descriptive. :rotfl:

Now where's that dried yeast, strong white flour, marvel milk powder...............:D

Ok then, you've got me started now! So has anyone had one of the rapid bakes by kenwood and can compare with the panasonic?

The kenwood is fine usually but not outstanding like you all say the panasonic is. I've worked out a plan, I give the kenwood to my mother (who will never use it) but at least I can get the panasonic!!

If you are using Marvel for breadmaking - then try Aldi's skimmed milk powder instead as it is much cheaper and just as good!
