Thanks for the replies all, is there a good cashback rewards site I can go through to get to Amazon??
Sorry for the thousands of questions, just want to be a smart buyer for once :-)0 -
Try Pigsback - they give some back, but I'm not sure whether it's much, and might only be for books, but definintely worth a look.

I was making the pizza bread recipe from the Panasonic booklet and missed the raisin beep for adding the pepperoni/olives. Can anyone tell me how long into the cycle it goes off, please? I took the dough out and mixed it in by hand in the end!0 -
A good tip I have found, is to use the ingredient quantities for a Large loaf but actually cook a extra large loaf, it tastes much nicer for some reason.Trying to be frugal and sensible with my pennies.0

hi everyone
There was a post by mel on 25.11.07 on a bread knife from tesco which has a good review. I am not sure how to post her review on this thread! I found it with typing in Tesco Bread Knife in the search. I also have the same problem with slicing home made bread and I don't find my electric knife much use. I was reading a thread yesterday about cooking gammon/ham from scratch and slicing for sandwiches as opposed to paying the prices in the supermarkets for them and this has me thinking I may try this and if succesful could perhaps invest in a Kenwood slicer which could be used for the bread as well.
Hope everyone is enjoying New Year's Day.

I found the whole 'loaf slicing' thing VERY frustrating at first too. I have to say that I think the main culprit was the "extra large loaf". It was just too high and would end up squashed down and sliced crooked. Sometimes very crooked
Now I only make medium loaves if I'm finishing it off in the bread maker. You won't get any more slices out of an extra large loaf, it's only higher not longer and the medium is more 'normal' height and very easy to slice after it's cooled fully. If I want a larger (longer) loaf, I do the ingredients for an extra large loaf, but only do it on the dough setting - and then put it in a bread tin and bake in the oven. I haven't had any troubles slicing since doing it this way, much more enjoyable!
I did buy one of the slicers during the frustration period, but found that there is a sort of curve at the back which for me, make it difficult for use with bread. Plus, again, the extra large loaf didn't fit it it very well so I was pretty much back to square one. We have some sort of green bags that are meant for keeping fruit/veg in and use those - over and over - for keeping the bread in.
Good luck and don't give up, once it all falls into place you will absolutely love it! Honest :rotfl:0 -
I've been experimenting with Kamut (Kamut grain is an ancient relative of modern wheat, naturally rich in selenium and high quality protein) flour instead of normal wholemeal. It makes a lovely loaf more like white bread in texture than wholemeal and with a lovely goldeny colour. The Kamut flour is a lot more expensive than normal wholemeal though, especially when the whole loaf disappears in a matter of minutes cos it's so yummy.
I always use oil (usually olive or rapeseed) rather than butter and just put in approx the same weight as I would butter. I don't use milk powder or sugar (except sometimes in a rapid bake) either but I do put in vit c in a wholemeal loaf.
I use electronic scales that I can stand the bread pan on - makes it really quick to throw all the ingredients in and makes less washing up too. I use the measure for teaspoon quantities but weigh everything else, including the liquid 100ml water = 100g.0 -
Hi,
I have just bought a panasonic SD255 and made one loaf of white bread okay on a timer
I tried to make a wholemeal bread on the timer last night and the display came up with Power Alert. (The trouble shooting guide says this is due to a pwer cut but the previous programme worked okay with no interuptions)
I have tried switching it off and retrying but none of the buttons will work to change bread type or the timer.
Have I done something stupid or do you think the machine is faulty?
Thanks0 -
Assuming you've tried letting it cool down and start again, then if it will not come on then it needs returning. Only issue we have had with ours is ensuring the stir paddle is firmly on the pan spindle and that the pan is seated firmly on the base. It needs a slight twist when fitting and removing, clockwise to fit, anti-clockwise to remove.
Its worth experimenting with recipes, using a part white, part wholemeal (or wheatmeal) flour recipe, we find the all wholemeal/wheatmeal recipes too dense. Also 95% of recipes work best in the basic bread mode. If possible avoid the quick method, we found it variable in results.
Best of Luck.......:~)
