Urgent Help Please... I have a new SD254 and am making a fruit loaf for the first time. The "raisin" Beep has just gone off but I don't know how to make it continue to bake - it isn't in the instructions.0

Hello everyone!
I also have the Panny breadmaker, got it when it was on special at Amazon a couple of weeks ago, have only made three loaves in it so far. But I intend to use it daily from now on, as part of my new years resolution on getting the shopping bill down;) The problem I am having at the moment, is cutting the bread, does anyone use an electric knife? I was thinking about buying one to see if this makes it any easier? Also how are you storing your bread, we go through a loaf a day, so in between we just wrap in cling film.
Have got a sandwhich loaf in at the moment, first one I have done, so am looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
Will be watching this thread!Trying to be frugal and sensible with my pennies.0 -
Hi All
We got the Panny SD254 in the Amazon sale just before Christmas and it`s been on almost every night since.
I always use a little less water than in the recipe book and always use half shops own brand strong white breadflour and half Allinsons seed & grain mix, i`ve only ever used the fast bake option and made the biggest loaf and every time the result has been fantastic.
I also made the fruit loaf once which was lovely but i`ve not tried any of the other recipes yet, TBH i`ll probably stick with the rapid loaf as it seems pointless to keep baking for 4 hours or longer when i`m getting such fabulous results with the 2 hour option, i think the kind of flour makes all the difference too.
Skyegirl i usually store mine in a big freezer bag once its cooled and just twist round the end to seal it then once the bread is gone i reuse the same bag for the next loaf.
Mac11 i wondered about this as well and was really concerned but it carries on after a while so i assume this is normal.

I am also struggling with cutting it!!! Haven't found the answer yet......except waiting until it is a day old which isn't much good....:rotfl:
I have been storing my bread wrapped in a sheet of greaseproof.....this allows bread to breathe unlike plastic and you can reuse sheet a few times at least....I find the crust remains firm rather than going soft like it does in a plastic bag! It simultaneously stops bread from drying out0 -

When the beeps go off, just pop in your raisins/seeds whatever and leave it. It will start up again on its own.0 -
hi everyone
There was a post by mel on 25.11.07 on a bread knife from tesco which has a good review. I am not sure how to post her review on this thread! I found it with typing in Tesco Bread Knife in the search. I also have the same problem with slicing home made bread and I don't find my electric knife much use. I was reading a thread yesterday about cooking gammon/ham from scratch and slicing for sandwiches as opposed to paying the prices in the supermarkets for them and this has me thinking I may try this and if succesful could perhaps invest in a Kenwood slicer which could be used for the bread as well.
Hope everyone is enjoying New Year's Day.

My breadknife makes a right old mess of a BM loaf and i don`t thing the electric ones much better either, when the breads older it`s a lot easier but when it`s really fresh i have only one knife that will cut it well its about 8" long (blade) serrated on one side and is curved upwards and pointy at the end, i find all my other knives are useless when the bread is new.
Maybe it`s a case of trying a different knife?

I have made the pizza dough very successfully in my panny. I double or triple the ingredients also to make a few doughs, these extra doughs can be eaten by large tribe or frozen for quick use the next time. The dough doubles quite easily and can be left in the panny to prove for a while, however, if you triple the ingredients I would remove the dough earlier as it can stick to the lid when it has risen. I also make a banana bread not in the book, I got the recipe on an earlier thread, will post link if I can find it.Penny xxx
