    Hi all,

Have read this post with interest as I am currently on week 4 of not having anything to drink or smoke, decided I couldn't do one without the other, this is the longest I have gone without a drink for more than 10 years, and have also given up tea & coffee, the first week was hard, but I feel so much better now, that's its outweighing any "benefits of drinking".

I cringe a bit now when I think of all the wine I have sat drinking at home, I am not saying I am never drinking again but for the time being I am not, and it does get better as time goes on.

Anyway everyone keep up the good work, this thread is great for me.

Hi Clara and a warm welcome. Many congratulations on such a great achievement!!! 4 weeks is a good long while so all the very best for keeping up with kicking both. Try not to cringe at thoughts of times gone by.....focus on a much healthier future instead. It's amazing just how quickly you feel the benefits from not smoking, I can vouch for that and am still shocked at it, shocked at having been a non smoker for 9 years too! I truly hope you succeed and am really rooting for you. All the best, Sue.

Hi mollypolly! Well done to you on another day done and free from it, I'm so pleased for you. Saving money AND making yourself healthy! What more is there to wish for.

All the very best for a great day tomorrow too! Sue.

  • Hello all, can I join in please? I have been drinking too much for years now, I usually drink 5 nights out of seven and can easily sink a bottle/bottle and a half of wine a go! (although some nights I only have a glass or two!) I don't have any physical symptoms on the nights I don't drink and not really any mad cravings, my problem is that I love alcohol! I like the taste of it and the way it relaxes me, I think I have just got into the habit of using it to de-stress and try as I might I can't give it up!

A few months ago I got really drunk mid week and hubby had a go at me about it and I felt terrible, I decided to go to an AA meeting (partly just to 'show him') anyway, I hated every minute of it and decided from what I heard there that mine is just a 'habit' rather than an addiction.

I am glad to have found this thread and know I am not alone, I am trying for a baby at the moment so I know I should really quit as it can affect fertility, I am going to try and cut down, not really decided what tactic yet, will keep you all posted!

    :D
