Hi Shopaholictiedtheknot.(Love that name lol)
I too was like you, loved the taste, thought it relaxed me etc.
As mentioned earlier on in this thread I have read a book by Allen Carr called No More Hangovers.
It has changed my mind about a lot of my thoughts about alcohol and I dont think I will drink again now as I have no need to.
Maybe worth a read at only £4.99 from WH Smiths.I am hoping it will save me alot of money.
Goodluck!!!

I all - I'd like to join in if I may.
Like others have said - I love the taste of alcohol and how it relaxes me. I was notmally drinking 2 glasses a night but am trying to lose weight and think I need to cut down. Am also planning on trying for another baby so it'll need to go pretty much then anyway.
Have been alcohol free since Saturday night - wow -its weds now so that means 3 alcohol free days (I thought it was 2 for some reason). Am really craving a glass of wine now thou. Not sure why! Hope the craving goes away as I had vowed no alcohol apart from weekends. Not sure I'll last that long thou!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

 Hello lovelies,
Funeral number one was Ok - even if it did mean that I had 3 glasses of wine before noon. The elderly lady friends of hers told me that my nan had enjoyed a good funeral, and that she would have loved this one so I took heart from that.
My dad had a drink waiting for me on the bar when I arrived at the wake, and my cousins tend to include me in their rounds - bless 'em - so I was lucky to get away with just three to be honest.
I've popped into MSE in hopes of occupying my brain for a litle while but Hubby and DD have gone to get a dvd so we can take it easy a bit and cuddle up on the sofa. Everyone's feeling a bit emotional still.
I haven't cried yet today, but I still feel like I need to - and I will probably cry later now that I'm "off duty" as it were .
My Aunties and Uncles and cousins bought me a blimmin' case of wine  to say thank you for organizing things which was lovely - but after that Tonight programme that Wol was talking about I don't feel as if I want to drink it right now. (My daughter watched it with me and she was nodding emphatically in some places.)
People always used to buy me boxes of chocs as thank you's but I managed to get the word out that I was trying to lose weight - so now I get wine instead.
We hardly ever have to actually buy any booze!
Anyway so there's just tomorrow to get through, and this will be with the boozy side of the family so god help me!
(but I promise to kick it into touch after that.)

hey all - instead of wine tonight I had .......(you'll love this!) a vit c orange tablet in water (like fizzy orange water) and the urge just went away! How smug is that? Vitamins instead of vino!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

Evenng all! Hreat to see people really thinking about what they drink! Wel done on all your individual achievements! Great that people can discuss too without, so far at least, any judgement! Long may it continue.
Have had an ok week so far,. I had book group on Monday & had 3 small glasses of wine & turned down a fourth! Very proud of myself & possibly a first ever - saying no to free wine!! I think for me giving up drinking & smoking last year made me realise how both made me feel cack physically and I do feel so much better when I dot. Not doing well on ciggies but am managing a mix of lozenges & ciggies so wil get there. More wanting to not drink as feel its more a way of not thinking about how I feel (tired or fed up, needing to relax etc) and dealing with the symptoms (bath, do nails, face pak, have an early night, read, phone a friend, not work too much & do excercise - the latter after having a row with myself!) and drink occasionally. I missed the prog ast night...is it repeated does anyone know? WOuld ove to see it but dont have a tv times or suchlike!
Big hugs for Jacks and thanks to others for such open & heartfelt posts. A special well done for sea too as I know that going out & not drinking was a worry so huge well done for resisting & prooving you CAN have a good time without alch!! Hugs all!
PS - Just watched the prog online and this may be of use...

Morning all.
I went to visit a friend who has just had a baby last night and she offered me a glass of wine so I had one! stayed an hour and a half so one wasn't too bad but then went home and finished half a bottle that was open - oops! going to try for a dry day today, wish me luck!!:D0 -
Morning all
I know this thread is mainly for those that just want to cut back their drinking but for those of you reading/lurking that feel they might have a problem with their drinking, I recommend this book..
http://www.amazon.co.uk/No-Big-Deal-Recovery-Addictions/dp/0955367700/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204797236&sr=1-1
(sorry don't know how to make links smaller!)
It is written by John Coats who is an alcoholic in recovery and about his journey, but it also covers every possible addiction you can think of whether it be smoking, food, weight issues, shopping, gambling, sex etc..
I found it very useful and very emotional.

hi, just read the thread and would like to join in please. I have many of the same issues as others - habit, drinking a bit too much and then just carrying on, drinking some alcohol everyday. I need to loose weight, sharpen up and get more energy, all of which would be easier if I didn't drink.
As I say, I would usually have at least two glasses every night with dinner and it is qtire normal for OH and I to drink a bottle. Something said about how many productive hours we loose in the evenings after a few glasses really hit home. If I have a drink I do nothing, no drink I can be fairly busy and get a lot done. so, count me in please as a no alcocol in the week and just a couple on the weekend!Saving to pay the tax man0
