  • Well done Roxie. Not good to be unwell but thats how I gave up smoking 18 years ago when I had the flu. Didn't want one and by the time I recovered most of the craving had subsided. Worked for me then so fingers crossed for you. Keep it up.

hi guys, just found this thread and wondered if I could ask a question. Basically my OH drinks most nights, he has a bottle of red and then 4-6 cans of stella. If there is beer/wine in the house he HAS to drink it, I think that he has a bit of a problem, he does not sleep well when he has not had a drink.
What do you all think, would you class this as being a problem or am I just being a nagging OH?
    Thanks a lot

  • Hi liuhut.
I went to the GP becuase I was drinking three cans of stella or half a bottle of wine a night and the GP said I had a problem. If its there and he has to drink it, or go out and buy some (as I did) then he has a problem.
Get him to his GP for some help. They really can offer some good support - with the 'frowned upon thing' you would expect to get.
Have you done the demotivator - its scary!

  • Sorry forgot to say, I sleep much better now without - only after 8 days. The doc says it was the CAUSE of my bad sleep - as it builds up.

    Hiya barshamhillbilly
Blimey thats really scared me know!!! He compares himself to people at his work who drink 14 cans a night and thinks that they have the problem!!!
I keep a s/sheet and put down what we are spending each month...when I told him what he had spent on beer last month he went into work and was told that they all spend double that...argh!!
Tbh he does know there is a problem, but we hate our GP, he is really not very nice so I might struggle on that score. At least he has had one night off it this week...I suppose that's a start....I just dont want to be the one to tell him not to drink...

  • Hi Liuhut - can't you change to a different GP? Is their a support centre in your area for substance abuse (Really not as bad as its sounds)?
Check out the following link for some general info: http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/103/

    Hope that helps.

OK, so last night was ok - only drank half a glass of wine! Moved on to coffee as soon as dinner was over and somehow forgot to finish the wine. DH definiely drinks loads more than me but if I mention it we just end up rowing - and then I think why should I cut down? I guess it needs to be me doing it for me, if you see what I mean. Well done to those sticking to cutting out!
