Liuhut, firstly welcome  secondly, get your OH to go on to the AA website and do the list of questions, then maybe you'll get an idea if he has a problem. Generally I think if there is alcohol in the house and you have to drink it, there's a problem. Good luck
Well I've a little problem of my own today, as it's my birthday next week and I work in a school and we're shut I came in to a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine
It is handy in the sense that I only really drink Stella so I shall give it to my OH to drink after I've used half of it in a casserole!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Put like that shopaholictiedtheknot I suppose you HAVE to think of it now as £1825 that you're saving each month! Well done on day 4 and I hope you're really proud of yourself for getting there! :T All the very best from here on!
Sue.
LOL sue it is £1825 a YEAR not a MONTH - I wish I earned that much :rotfl:0 -
hi guys, just found this thread and wondered if I could ask a question. Basically my OH drinks most nights, he has a bottle of red and then 4-6 cans of stella. If there is beer/wine in the house he HAS to drink it, I think that he has a bit of a problem, he does not sleep well when he has not had a drink.
What do you all think, would you class this as being a problem
that is 1. a lot of booze and 2. a worrying attitude to it.or am I just being a nagging OH?
Showing concern for your OH is naturalbut if your husband doesn't want to listen then whatever you say will have no effect
. If he responds to your concerns by saying that you're nagging then he is trying to say 'I haven't got a problem, it's all in your head'. It's belittling and unkind.
Have you looked at alanon? It's an organisation for people who think someone close to them has a drink problem. http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/english.html Even if you don't think someone is an out-and-out alcoholic there are still ideas that you might find interesting. There are also meetings (less scary than you think)

Thanks for the welcome Jo, I will try to get him to look at it, like beemuzed said if I mention it we just end up rowing so I think I am going to do it from the money angle....we are trying to save up to move to oz so I think I am going to have to say you have £x to spend a week and go from there!!
We have cut down going out with friends who drink a lot, that sounds awful!!
He had gone up to two bottles of wine a night last week so I suppose he has stuck to his word and cut down like he said he would!!WIN £2008 in 2008 £1836.31 2009 wins - £91!!! 2010 wins in Oz $ 6170.... wins 2011 aprox $2000
MFIT - number 37. Reduce my mortgage from £63,500 to £48,000. now at 54,000...0 -
Welcome to the newbies, I am on day 5 today and feeling really saintly!!:D
Liuhut - This is just my opinion but sounds to me like your OH knows he has a problem, I always get on the defensive and compare other folks drinking habits with my own when OH confronts me! I really don't think it will do any good trying to stop him, you could try telling him how much the habit is costing your family financially though, and what you are missing out on in order to fund it, I just know whenever my hubby says anything to me I just think ' I will do what I like what's it got to do with you!' (selfish attitude I know!) I think each person has to come to the decision on their own
Good luck anyway
Jo - we are doing great  what do you have planned for the weekend?0 -
Another thing, if your GP is not very helpful...go on to your local councils website. They should have a drug and alcohol service team which can offer support and counselling
That's what I did and bypassed the GP altogether!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Got a load of veg seeds to plant in my greenhouse and planning a spring clean of the house to take my mind off the evil drink
I will be having 'a flutter' on the national tomorrow so that will be my big nightmare, I usually watch it with a few nice ice cold glasses of white wine  boo hoo I want to cry :rotfl:

OOh just had a thought I am going to buy some Kaliber alcohol free beers and get them ice cold then may feel like I am not too deprived
(or is that cheating or defeating the object?!)0 -
I wouldn't touch Kaliber with a barge-pole, even ice cold. Go to Tesco and get either alch-free Becks or Stella, they are drinkableDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
