welcome back eselt...well - your reaction's not been severe enough to make it onto the national news - out of interest what did you say to the little darlings?

Well, I went for the 'withering stare' approach, quietly asked all mates to go home after asking for their parents email addresses, 'why?' they asked-so I can send all these pictures to your home computers so your parents know what you've been up to (I won't but they don't know that!!!!). 14 yr old sent to his dad's up the road for a man to man chat on the perils and evils of !!!!!! etc- told not to come back until I had sorted computer out, and he had written me a letter to explain what they were doing and why (I mean in my day all the lads used to look at magazines- but I draw the line at animals and worse!!!! THeres some really nasty stuff around) and how he's not going to do it again. First time in a long time I've really needed a drink- when I think about it the school holidays always used to drive me to drink. Anyway, happy to report I didn't- what aload of little monsters!!!!

I'm impressed on both counts....the way you did it....impending doom...potential to blackmail...."Mrs eselt, how long do we have to wash your cash for?" "for as long as I still have the stuff you downloaded on my PC ready to send to your parents if you don't do the chores I set you..."

and not turning to the liquid stuff...you & I know it would have made things a lot worse...

I don't really want to know this but could they actually get horrid stuff without paying for anything?

Allen Carr mentions in his book about how other people can become uncomfortable when you stop drinking because its a reminder to them of what a problem it really is.

Thanks for this - I agree - my friends were really uncomfortable with my husband in the early years - I think they felt threatenend by his non drinking.

"Would you not feel comfortable admitting to your friends that you've stopped drinking because you are worried you're drinking too much?"

I think the problem here Jo is that if I admit to them I have a problem it's also perhaps bringing to their attention that they probably have a problem as well - anyway, going to stay away from them for a good month or two.
I have some friends who take a transit over to France every 6 weeks to stock up their booze, still going even though the exchange rate is so bad.
Fortunately all my drinking friends live a some distance away so it won't be too hard. Local friends tend to be via work and I generally to hold back on the booze in front of these friends.

No drink today, just checked my notebook and I've had 9 AFD's in August (so far) but only 4 of them consecutive so liver hasn't had much chance of recovery - still, 9 in 21 days must be more than I've had in the rest of the year put together. There have probably been whole months when I haven't had a single alcohol free day.
It's all down to you lot - I discovered this thread on 31st July and it's really made me think about my drinking and the impact it's having on me and those around me.

I'm also nicer to my kids ( and they're nicer to me) when I haven't had a drink.

    Goodnight all

I reckon I'm now drinking 10-15% per week of what I was a year ago.
TBH it's been amazingly easy to do, so I think I was drinking because I could, not because of a dependancy. i.e. It's easy to buy a few bottles of nice beer when shopping and it's also very easy to test them when you get home.

Anyway, if you want some motivation then work out how much you are saving per week and then spend half of that on some other things you quite fancy.

I realised this when I downloaded an album the other day and the cost was actually covered by me not drinking for 2 nights.
    Happy chappy

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Jesus if they had the ability to pay for it as well god knows what sort of stuff they'd find- no just stuff off Youtube and sites like that- they did try a few 'freeviews' and I'm still getting the pop ups asking for my registration and credit card details- can't even take it in to get it sorted as I'm frightened they might see whats on it and report me!!!

Oh well, these things are sent to try us I suppose.......

I have a tricky weekend coming up. Although I haven't given up alcohol completely I have cut down. When its my time of the month too I avoid vodka completely and try not to overdo anything else I drink because otherwise I get a stinking migraine which lasts for 2-3 days. So this weekend I need to drink none or very little alcohol because of this.

However, my daughter is 21 tomorrow (I can't possibly be old enough to have a daughter that age!!! I must have given birth when I was eight!!!:p ) We are going out for a meal tomorrow and then on Saturday we have friends and relatives coming round for nibbles and then at about 9.30 everyone is going down the town - youngsters to the nightclub and us older people to a 70's/80's music pub. The meal tomorrow I can cope with but on Saturday I just know I will drink one after another. We have secretly arranged two limos to pick everyone up from our house to take us into town and, of course, I want to go in a limo too. However, I thought it would be better for me to drive because then I won't touch a drop. I just don't want to miss out on the limo experience.

Think my hubby and me may have to take the car and park it down town and then come back to take the limo.

Hi all, not been able to get on pc since 18th; guys, thanks for the birthday wishes (I came over all warm!), yes it was a good day, ta. I am officially still "on holiday" even tho boat NFG, so am still drinking, but you know what? It's actually becoming a bit tedious, "I'm on hols so it's what I do", & am sort of looking forward to stopping next week. I was like this when I stopped smoking in the end, so hope the boozing will go the same way. In the end I simply didn't want to smoke any more, after 32 years! Certainly at the mo it's how I feel about the wine, difference being want to cut down not stop. When drinking gets boring......time to call a halt?!

Jo I think to decide to drink for one day then not go back to it is harder then stopping altogether, well done.

Alisong going strong, well done too!

Welcome Jobags, sorry to rest of you if not acknowledged am short of time here, pls all keep going & Bis do not go! (?)

    xx
