so...where is everybody? need to confess had a liqueur chocolate last night and it was an odd sensation! Similarly the red wine pasta sauce that the kids loved so much a couple of weeks ago...I could really feel the kick....

    It is a strange business this isn't it:confused: .

I've had a few days where I've felt it's been almost easy and now a couple where I seem to be having loads of 'triggers' like seeing the drink in the fridge, in the garage, moving it etc which have been really hard (I know that sounds like a lot of booze, I'm working on it:o !). It's really hard to remember the way you felt when either happens-sometimes it seems easy and you think what was the problem and at other times it seems almost impossible:confused:  .

Well, that's enough philosophising, nasty Nicole awaits me downstairs on BB.

    Take care all,

    Hi All

Loads of good advice knocking around at the moment on here and lots of positive cutting down/motivation/quitting stuff too.

Pretani, do go and see your GP and be absolutely honest, theyv'e heard it all before and won't be shocked, and you can pat yourself on the back for seeking help and getting started- on the plus side there could be nothing wrong with you at all and the symptoms might be simple and straightforward and nothing to do with drink, but it will niggle you until you know for sure.

Alisong- get the booze out of the house!!!!! It will just 'sing' to you- I even used to dream about leftover wine in the fridge and wake up in the middle of the night then sneak down and glug it- I couldn't rest until I knew every drop was gone:eek:

BHB- your grandads story makes me feel so selfish and spoilt- I wander what it was that made these people so strong when so many of us are so weak???

    Evening all :)

Had a really close call earlier....I decided that as OH was going out and I was driving him to the station, I could stop at the offy on the way back and get 4 beers to drink in secret. I had to wait an hour or so while he was getting ready (he's worse than a woman ) and I was itching to go knowing that I was going to drink.

Dropped him at the station and driving back I was thinking..what if he decided to come home early (he doesn't normally get back till 2am at the earliest) and he wants me to pick him up from the station. What if my DD1 can tell I've had a drink. I won't feel great in the morning. I might not want to watch nasty nicole get chucked out of BB cos I want to go to bed to sleep. I might crave more tomorrow evening if I drink today.

All this lot when through my head in less than half a mile driving! I didn't want to say no I wasn't gonna buy it till I was sure, cos once I got in I'd need a pretty good excuse to go out again so I drove round the block a few times and decided that I would go home and down a glass of Indian tonic water with Robinsons tropical squash (it actually tastes like gin and tonic!) and eat my double decker. Got in and did that and now am so thankful to be sober, another day notched up and another close call averted. Not sure without coming out of this message but I might have saved over £100 today or maybe that's tomorrows sober day, tomorrows sober day will also mean a month

Well done to everyone doing so well, good luck to those that feel they're not....baby steps :)

Bis, did ya feel p1ssed on that liquer?? :rotfl:

Hi eselt, you've just knocked it on the head about BHB's grandad, we are all very spoilt and high maintenance these days aren't we??

Just popped back to say, as I forgot, hi to the newbies  keep posting and read through the thread to get some great advice.

Pretani, I echo the advice about seeing the GP, especially if you have felt any pain or brought up blood. I'm not the finest example to lead though :undecided Good luck, let us know how you get on :)

LP  good to see you on here :)

Hi everyone else, gotta go sleep now, speak tomorrow :)

Bank holiday Friday (well it's Saturday now).
I've allowed myself a few bottles of ale. The last bottle is Old Peculiar, a rather strong, dark Ale.

    Well, two observations:
-it takes about a month of reduced drinking to get back to the intoxication levels you experienced when aged about 16.
-Old Peculiar tastes about as strong as Whiskey. ie: 6% ale tastes almost as alocholic as whatever strenth Whiskey is.

    Now that is weird.
    Happy chappy
  • Well I did have a couple of glasses of fizz with my hubby, but that is it now, there is nothing in the house and I will not be buying any, instead I will be putting the £5.00 in the piggy bank, it will be interesting to see how much I can save.

I think as I see the money mounting up I will be less inclined to go and buy alcohol, or at least I hope that is how it works out !!

    Hi all, how's things?

Well done Jo:T , you must be pleased and relieved. I can completely understand the driving round the block thing, I've done that sort of shall I, shan't I stuff before. It's good that you had enough barriers to put in the way to decide no in the end.

We're packing here today (one of my least favourite things:mad: ), I'm hoping doing it early will mean I'm a bit less stressed out about it although DD1 is absolutely in her element with reams of lists and plans:rolleyes: . I've resolved my argument with myself (for now, anyway:o ) and the plan is not to drink while we're away. I've thought of a couple of ways to try to make it happen so we'll see........ .

Hope everyone has a good BH, I remember last time I had a terrible weekend, still drinking and feeling yuk:eek: , thank goodness I'm feeling a bit better now:D .

Anyway, suitcases calling, will pop in later.
