My second time here. I haven't drunk anything since Friday, & I've re-registered with the downyourdrink website - has anyone else used it? It's really good, & improved since the last time I used it.

    Well done everyone :j

  • I'm stopped now, I have had a cup of tea so won't have any more alcohol.

    Thanks for the support!!
  • Hi Peeps, the great thing is you get another day tomorrow! Had to take painkillers this afternoon so slept through the afternoon, makes me wonder how on earth I managed to drink wine on top of that lot!! Well, lets face it I didn't manage. Started self-medicating with wine - not good & it doesn't work - why did it take me so long to find that out.
    Sleep well

Hi all, just a quick look in from me before I pop to bed (sober:D ).

To those struggling I'd repeat what's been said, todays been done now (hopefully;) ), let it go and start again tomorrow.

By the way, I've been thinking about how to keep things going long term, has anyone tried AA? If so, what did you think?

See you all tomorrow, night night, Ali x.

Hi Alisong, how do you keep things going long term? Well AA didn't work for me at all. Theres this big hype about 12 steps and a higher being and for me that was just too simple and ridiculous- I've never been a religious type and I know my addiction is all my own so giving myself up to a 'higher' force just didn't wash- since then I've done a bit of research and found out that 12 step programes have a 25% success rate- pretty poor really. It's far worse than that for serious drinkers too- I suppose a lot of people just can't connect. Hey,if anyone knew the answer to the permanent sobriety question I'd be first in the queue, but as far as I know theres no quick fix, its really bloody tough, it doesnt get easier for years, you'll never be the same person again, you'll grieve about the times you could have had, you'll loose sleep, you'll eat loads, you'll sit there tapping your foot at 9.00....and you'll still think about a drink as soon as you wake up, every waking hour and until you go to bed. Sorry to sound so depressing, but thats what alcohol addiction for me is like- and even though I've been to rehab 7 times no one seemed to be able to help-until I finally wised up and realised that its all about me and only I can change things.

Sorry if I sound pessimistic- I'm not really, I've been sober since 14/12/07 and I wish every day I'd done it before.
