Well done eselt, you did great, and your dad sounded so proud of you!

Had a really dodgy evening, OH went out and I decided that I was gonna drive to the shop as soon as he went and buy 2 cans. It was raining and miserable and somehow (eff knows how), I managed to talk myself out of it. I was completely set on drinking tonight, it's scared the bejaysus out of me

I've just drunk my last lilt, about to have a magnum then going to bed.

Hope you're all well this evening xx

Thanks bis and others for the positive posts-like they say, if I knew then what I know now things would have been very different- good luck everyone.

    You're welcome.

Don't get hung up about it taking a long time to make it up to everybody....that leads to its own frustrations. Make things better day by day and each day of your sobriety is a gesture to everyone in its own right.

Well done on the grapefruit moment....it's a shame that it's sometimes awkward but I'm proud to not drink and if someone has anything to say about it then stuff them....they're probably jealous that you're free of the shackles.

awesome...that was a tough one so well done....they're the battles that are there to be lost...and winning them is so much sweeter....seems like autopilot behaviour so well done for asserting yourself....hope you enjoyed the magnum!

:T Well done Jo, brilliant effort.

Did you find that the craving went away after a bit once you decided you wern't going to drink?? Hopefully you can use what went well next time you have a sticky spell.

    Take care all, Ali x.

Well - after a horrible feeling in my stomach yesterday - I'm back !

    36 hours and counting ;)

Jo - :T:T:T:T:T Fantastic work - keep it up and just think of all those extra pennies for the luxuries in life. Scary what you actually spend on the stuff isn't it?

Everyone else - hope its going OK. It may take some time to read back.

    Best Wishes

BHB, what was the horrible feeling in your stomach? Was it due to drink or the fact that you couldn't! Welcome back anyway, apart from a few wobblers I've had over the past few days, I must admit life sober is definately better than when I was drinking everyday. The only negatives (which aren't actually negatives, just stuff I gotta get used to), is that the evenings are very very long, which is okay sometimes when you've got stuff to do like watch a film or whatever. And the worst bit is the not being able to turn my brain off and go to sleep at night. I used to be able to sleep anywhere, anytime, head hits the pillow and that was it. But now, I'm laying there for an hour or more  although, saying that, even though I'm getting less actual sleep, I think the sleep is better quality iykwim and I don't actually feel knackered when I get up in the morning.

    I'm so pleased I've 'saved' (well, not spent :o ) £38.50 so far :D

I've decided that I'm going to use the money on my ole mum's birthday present, I used to have money years ago (well I didn't, it was all borrowed so that's why I'm on this board now :rotfl:) and used to buy her lovely gifts for her birthday and xmas, including a 5 night trip to Paris for her 70th, Royal Doulton figures which she collects etc etc. Since I've become a little better with money, she's had pretty much booger all for her birthday! So I've decided to withdraw my Quidco savings and I'm taking her to Claridges for lunch or dinner (not decided yet) and to see a show. She needs treating and thought I'd celebrate my not drinking :D

    How's everyone today?

    xx

Phew, sounds like that was a close call, Jo. But well done you for managing not to give in to temptation!:T Even if you had given in and had a drink I think we have to accept that we had a weak moment, pick ourselves up and start again. As they say, 'tomorrow is another day'.

just takes some adjusting....I had can't-sleep-itis for weeks and I still have it to a point - from counting sheep to musicians to songs and favorite films I've gone through a lot of switch-off techniques....

I can function pretty well on 5/6 hours sleep now whereas I used to get about 8 really bad hours "something" and be exhausted in the morning and the cycle would start again.....

as for the long evenings...welcome to the rest of your life...!

Thank you so much for the wise words Bis, you are absolutely right, I can never go back and change all the dreadful stuff I put my kids and family through- and I suppose it took me 20 yrs to get into a state and I can't expect everyone to trust me and see I've changed overnight- its going to take time, I've just got to keep straight and not let them down.

Jo- wow your resolve is great-and all the money you saved too- years ago about £40 for a night out was average for me- as well as a bottle before I went out to 'get me in the mood'-what a waste!!!!

    Hope everyone is OK.

Must have been Mrs BHB's cooking :rotfl:

Seriously though - it was due to drinking Chardonnay like I normally drink beer! Self induced..... I'm afraid. :o

Itching for a beer this afternoon though ..... so far so good . Haven't caved in yet..... fingers crossed.
