Oh and just to add - Shoppy - you're not useless - you're human ... and you're bound to have set backs along the way - the important thing is that you don't give up.
Hope you're having a better day.

Well done Jo, that is fantastic :T :T :T
It's still early days for me, so don't know if I'm the best person to give advice (Bis, that's your cue!), but as I am coming up to my second weekend I plan to not think about it until it's turned up and take each day/hour/minute as it comes.
It's funny, cos my friend is getting married in a few weeks and she said to me earlier in the week 'you haven't forgotten it's my hen night on Friday have you?' and I immediately said, 'yeah I had forgotten but I'll be there, I'm not drinking so I'll drive us all' - now I have no idea where that came from, cos I'd forgotten completely about the night out let alone made plans for not drinking or being the taxi :rotfl:
So I shall be going to an over 30's disco this evening  and watching hoards of oldies (and yes I am well over 30 so I'm allowed to say it!), getting p1ssed and dancing like fools. But on the up side, we stick to our own drinks so I won't be spending hardly any money and I get to drive straight home and go to bed sober and will wake up un-hung-overed'ed tomorrowDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Hi All and well done everyone:T :T :T
Rach- I take beta blockers (atenenol)for high blood pressure but I know they can be prescribed for anxiety etc. If your OH has been prescribed them for high blood pressure then he'll probably have to take them for good- I've been on them for 15 yrs (ever since I had pre-eclampsia) and they have sorted my high blood pressure out, even though I don't like taking them. Not sure why he has been prescribed them..bit of detective work for you I think!
Still trying to remedy the sweet tooth thing- thought I would try chewing old fashioned liquorice stick twigs last week which worked for a bit, until I got fed up with them-am trying sugar free mints this week, with a big mug of warm honey and lemon in the morning for a sugar kickstart. My sis thinks its hilarious that I'm worried about too much sugar, considering the damage I've done to myself as an alcoholic!
Best of luck to everyone abstaining, struggling or cutting down today.0 -
I know how you feel, Shoppy. That is the sort of thing I would do - Im really clumsy and always breaking things. So you're not alone.
Its been an absolute sh*t couple of weeks since my holiday. My hubby had a bad cough last week and now Ive got it. Can hardly sleep at night for all the coughing. Its horrible. Ive taken the Benlyn cough stuff that makes you drowsy but its not working.
Plus Ive got a relative in her 20's who's husband of only a year has left her for someone else (ba***rd!). She's a lovely girl and doesn't deserve how he's treated her. Also my brother's wife has just left him and, of course, he's upset too. This morning I took our new puppy to the vet for a checkup and from what he says I think we will have to return her to the breeder. So all in all, I want to go back on holiday and forget it all. Failing that, I just want to turn to the bottle later!
I know your problems don't go away when you drink but for a few hours I can feel better about things. Don't worry though, I won't go too over the top.0 -
PS. Anyone got any remedies that work for tickly coughs? Does honey and lemon stop you coughing?0

Hi Beth, I always take hot water with honey and lemon when I've got a bad throat or chest, it's probably all in the mind, but I like to feel I'm drinking something that soothes it....works for me
I hope you feel better soon x

Hi Rach,
I think you might need a cleverly worded chat, don't go in guns blazing though!! Maybe just ask him what beta-blockers are and what positive effects he should expect? Good luck, let us know what happens
Well, I'm about to think about getting ready for the hen night, having a few panics, hoping I'm strong enough to say no  I'm sure I am and I know that quite a few (prob espesh Bis) would say don't go, but she's a really good friend and I'd hate to miss it. I was going to drive, but apparently a good friend of hers has a really posh car and offered to take us so I'd look a bit stoopid driving seperately. Least if I had the car I'd have a better excuse, although...I know...I know...I don't need an excuse, just 'NO' is the best policy :rotfl:
