    Hi Bismark

Once again the great leveller!!!! Have you ever thought about becoming an alcohol councellor- your support and advice is much better than I've ever had from the NHS!!!! I hope you are right about getting rid of the stigma, I live in a little Cornish village and the gossip is dreadful and everyone thrives on it- you tend to get paranoid- gossip is fine I suppose when you are not the main subject!!?? You sound really strong and confident, I want to get back to being like that again- without booze. I think your philosophy on life is brilliant too- keep posting.

    Cheers Jackie

What other people think is not important. You are on your own path, and the only people you meet along the way that you need to connect with are those that genuinely care and can support you unconditionally. Anyone else ignore, they will soon find something else to carp on about! There's a strong and confident person in you too Jackie:A

Bismark, you are so right about how much it costs to drink, I've saved at least £300 this month through not going out on the lash and keeping booze out of the house/shed/car/friends fridge. Thanks for the reminder. There are so many reasons to stop it

well said...there is more to life than alcohol...we would all do well to remember what's really important.

Jo-re: stomach probs- I managed to avoid these in the end by taking the Sennakot dual action (contipation and trapped wind) tablets or deflatine- if you start taking a couple of these on the first day you give up for a couple of days you shouldn't have the tummy probs. CPN from Addaction suggested this to me and it worked-might be worth a try if you are in too much agony- other symptoms sound like withdrawal to me I'm afraid.

Thanks for this eselt, I'll get some today in preparation. It is something that I always suffer from but I was surprised it hit on day 2 this time, used to be around day 4  I'd only got 2 sachets of fibregel in me (obviously that ain't strong enough).

I'm worried now about the withdrawals, but really want to stop rather than reduce cos I feel like carp drinking 2 or 1 can knowing I can't have anymore. Also do I drink it straight away then mooch around all night or do I save it till late but spend the whole night clock watching waiting for the time to open it, or do I try and spread 1 can over 5 hours  now we know that ain't gonna happen. Now each scenario is just as bad as not having any at all in my opinion. But what do I do about the withdrawals? I don't want to take librium, antabuse or campral because although they are good at taking the edge off it, I need to face this full on. I also don't want to replace one addiction with another. Plus that would mean detox again which I don't want to do as it puts so much onus on quitting and the pressure is incredible which makes the keeping quit even harder.

Shoppy, where are ya girl

  • Morning guys and gals, it has taken me ages to read through all the posts since Friday - some very soul searching ones too!

Well AFD for me on Friday but I am afraid I had a bottle and a half yesterday:eek:

Went to the pics in the morning feeling great from sober Friday night and saw Hancock - great film spoiled only slightly by the annoying little boys on the end of our row, why the h*ll do they bother paying for tickets and then not watch the film:confused: it is way too expensive not to!!!

Anyway, we got home early aft and I spent a couple of hours cleaning then my friend came round, she only had one glass as she was driving but I -as usual- proceeded to get p*ssed :o she went home at eight and I ate dinner then fell asleep on the sofa. Feel a bit ropey this morning but still managed full english breakfast:D am going for an AFD again today and hope I don't get any palpitations.
  • LOL here I am :D OH is just moaning he wants to use the comp so I will just go for a shower and then be back on, see you soon if you are still here?

I didn't mean to get involved in the cutting down bit but I agree about the having 2 or 1 whatever...it's utterly pointless as you don't enjoy it. For me it would never be enough....it's like having a glass of wine? duh? why? it's like going to a restaurant and having the nibbles and wanting the starters, main course, dessert and coffee and mint but knowing that they're out of bounds.....why go to the restaurant?

If you don't want to go to the doctors about the chemical stuff going on, an extreme option is to drink water/juice/tea and completely flush your system and eat well...if you're down to a couple of cans a day that shouldn't be too extreme to step back from.

If you were on a litre of spirits a day, I'd be a lot more wary.

Still, I'm concerned about the cramps and things.....maybe you need to see the doctor anyway and take a few days off work...perhaps do this when school's finished so you can tough it out without affecting your job?
