Well my plans didn't go as I had thought and my night out with friends disappeared.
As I drove up the road I realised what a beautiful evening it was and how a nice long drink in the garden would go down a treat.
Thought long and hard about it and was seriously considering heading off to the supermarket for some rum.

Saw all the beautiful people sitting outside the pubs drinking and enjoying the sun and decided that I could always start again tomorrow.

Then I saw a couple of drunks with their "kerry-oot" staggering to get into a taxi and I thought "That could be me" - just because I hide at home when I am drinking doesn't mean I am not a drunken bum.
So straight home and made my dinner and had a Pepsi - without the rum and feel very superior now.

Nearly tripped up though - need to watch that.

Well, mixed results tonight. OH did indeed drop by for a drink (4 - ish) so I had one (bottle) too. This not good :o . HOWEVER, as a cutter-downer not a total abstainer, I am v pleased with how things went after he left - last week, I would have proceeded onto bottle no.2 & defrosted a pizza, then passed out on sofa. But, after he had gone, yes I finished what was left in the bottle but then went to the fridge, removed second bottle & replaced it in the wine rack & since 6.30 pm have been drinking mugs of tea & water (& stuck to plan of healthy salad!).
Bis: good qu as to why wine in the house - it was here already before i started this effort, has been here all week, if it hadn't been here today I would've whizzed down the road & bought some. To be honest if I am going to drink I will go & get some, the fact it's here doesn't make me more likely to if that makes sense. Down from 3 to 2 bottles now, anyway.
Having tried to appear almost saintly, I think there's no doubt that if OH hadn't dropped by I would've been on a solitary 2-bottle binge tonight, I was well wound up for it, I need to think about that to avoid it for another evening.
Got 1lb blackcurrants & 2lbs gooseberries from garden; jam-making coming up as distraction!
Hope you al have a good weekend.
P.S. I take milk thistle every day & have done so for a long time, is supposed to help the liver regenerate; LFT undeservedly perfect 2 yrs ago, who knows if related?

so apart from Winebox, mymatebob, eselt and spam-jam, it's ominously quiet.....

good that you're busy spam-jam....it always helps keep your mind from straying.

    mymatebob.....impressive reasoning and result..well done!

eselt...what can I say? sober you can shrug and try and do what's best....if p*****d, the smallest thing can set you off .

winebox ...your situation is different because it's hard to see what your long-term objective is...is it feasible for you to stop altogether? Or are you aiming for a one-bottle-on-a-Friday existence - something I could never do...

well done for those who've done what they aspired to over the last few days....for those who are a little less chirpy - there's always hope.
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007

    Thanks for that.

My house is full of booze as the OH likes to drink - not to excess like me, but we always have drink in so there is a cupboard with Gin, Vodka, Whisky, Tequila, and a rack with a few bottles of wine on it.

And some beer in the fridge too.

Here's to another AFD to you all or a cut down one for those who are not abstaining
  • I kind off have the same problem. Hubby has a stressful job and likes a drink to unwind. He says he doesn't have a problem with drink, but I've only seen him have a booze free night once this month:eek: . Anyhoo I kind of need to get back on track, as thursday he bought me a bottle of wine. (quite a large bottle), and I finished it off last night.(He had a few beers.). Just because it was friday. I think I need a different approach, as if I'm stressed midweek I would drink one of his beers, but it was happening every night:eek: . I sometimes feel its like telling everyone your on a diet. Then watch the cream cakes come out:rotfl: Anyhoo rant over. Will start again from today. Hubby won't be in till late, so hopefully will be into my book with a cup of tea. Hope you all have a good week. xx

    Good luck.

Try to keep thinking of the positives of not drinking and the negatives of when you do.
Like the cost for one! (that's a negative - lol)

    Take care

I know exactly what you mean. Im the same. Im more likely to want alcohol if I know theres none in the house, whereas if I have a bottle of something in the cupboard/fridge then I know the choice is mine whether I drink or not and I find it easier to abstain. Sounds daft, I know!

Im more of a cutter-downer too. Im quite pleased because I am drinking a lot less than I used to. I have nights where I don't drink at all and just have decaff tea and on the nights I do drink I try to stick to Malibu because it isn't as strong as vodka, or Bacardi Breezers because they are a longer drink and quite fizzy so I find it hard to drink many of them!

I take a multi vitamin and iron supplement and I notice the difference if I stop taking them and now I know why after reading some of your comments on here. It has iron and Vitamin B's in it amongst other things. I obviously need it being a drinker!

Have a good day everyone! Im off to Majorca tomorrow:j so won't be posting for a couple of weeks. Good luck to those quitting and cutting down!

Good morning, hope you are all feeling good this morning. I flippin crashed out last night at @ 9pm watching Amnericas got talent with my kids. O well at least Im up early and raring to go.

Folks this thing about having drink in the house doesnt it make it harder for you. I always found that a minor problem would set me off looking for something to drink, you know 'I dropped a plate and smashed it, i need a drink to get over it' and if it was in the house it was easy to reach for it. Are you getting enough support from your OHs, do they understand your cause?

Well, I drank a bottle of white last night:o I have to say in my defence that it was for experimental purposes though, I have been having bad heart palpitations every evening since I quit (almost two weeks ago) and wanted to see if I still had them if I drank - answer - NO!! by the time I had finished the first glass they had completely gone!

    Morning all

Just thought I'd quote Shoppy on her post as it's the same thing for me. I actually posted a great long message yesterday morning about it but lost it and this is the first chance I've had to catch up

I had a fantastic AFD on Wednesday as you all know, didn't crave, chose not to drink, everything was wonderful. Woke up on Thursday feeling carp but by the time I got to work I felt quite jubilous that I was totally sober. Then Thursday afternoon I got the most horrendous trapped wind and I was doubled up in pain even though I'd taken fibregel to help with that. I was surprised cos I don't normally get this trouble until at least 2-3 days later. Then when I got in from work I felt a bit dizzy and sick and lightheaded and got scared. I was going to ride it out and probably nothing would've happened to me, but I went to the shop and bought drink and all symptoms disappeared. Now, was this sick, dizzy, lightheadedness physcosymatic? Or was I actually experiencing withdrawals

Obviously as Thursday I caved in that blew Friday out of the water :o

I'm still writing my thought/craving diary and I'm starting to see a pattern emerging, can't wait to see the physco on Wed for her to give me heads up on what it means..

Hope everyone's ok, good luck for today whether you're cutting down or abstaining :)

    xx
