Well, I drank a bottle of white last night:o I have to say in my defence that it was for experimental purposes though,

have to confess my immed reaction was :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I've heard it all now! But then read on......these palpitations sound awful, I'm v lucky not to get the withdrawal stuff. Hope spammie's remedy works. I've read Castaway as well, did you ever see the film? (Oliver Reed). There is another book called The Islander by Gerald Kingsland giving his version of events; I think he was unhappy with the way he was portrayed in her book. I've always had a desert island fantasy tho being a practical person I worry about how I would shave my legs etc TMI.

I'm in trouble here - I am absolutely gagging for a glass of wine.  Big time.  Keep putting it off - bottle isn't even in the fridge yet (see? I'm saying yet!). Work was sh!te today very stressy, have done well not to start already have had a cuppa, DD home soon & am going to get her out in the garden to help me with fruit picking. Trying to hang on to Bis's advice but grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It's cos it's Friday. I'm willing someone to come round so I've got the excuse, as I'm not abstaining just trying not to do it solitary!! OH often pops down for a TGIF drink on a Fri afternoon bet he won't today. I was going to put it in the fridge just in case but then thought, too dangerous, then it's cold & ready even if he doesn't come. OMG just realised the fish I am supposed to be poaching is boiling to death downstairs must fly, Spammie a few more of those cosmic vibes towards Wiltshire please.
  • winebox - I knew someone would say that :rotfl: I thought that as I wrote it!! Stay strong girl and have an AFD - I am going to supermarket tonight so won't have time to drink, am planning on a few tomorrow night though;) I will have a look for the Islander book, I hadn't heard of it, I have seen the film it is good but not a patch on the book don't you think?

Eselt - you have been through the mill by the sounds of things, glad you are doing so well now!

Spamjam - I can't believe what willpower you have! why not bottle it and sell it on ebay?:D I could do with a gallon or so :rotfl:

What are everyones weekend plans? I am going to see Hancock tomorrow - matinee as it is cheaper £4.75 instead of £6.80 in the afternoon  Sunday I am watching shipwrecked - I love it!

sorry to ask the obvious but if you know you're going to undergo a trial tonight, why is there a bottle of wine in the house?

    u r welcome ;-)
Let us know how you get on and good luck, you are heading in the right direction:j
Since quitting fags I have been taking St. Johns Wort too, but not at the same time as Valerian, its really good. After giving up amphets, dope, alcohol and now fags I feel like I must have a certain type of personality that needs to be taking 'something'. The lady at the health food shop rec'd Ginseng too but I dont want to rattle:rotfl:

    milk thistle's good too...

OK newbie here! have been reading the thread for a while, and am so inspired by everyone! I dont know if I drink loads but have been feeling lately, like perhaps I do, and that I have quite an addictive personality. Good example, last night I meet DH for a couple of drinks, then, after he goes out later I wait til he is gone then go to the off licence for a a bottle of wine, whilst taking the old bottle in the house down to recycling trying to pretend the new bottle is the old bottle!!!! so that he wont realise that I have bought another bottle!!

I can do alcohol free days, maybe even weeks, but at the end of the day the day the minute I have one I want ten!!!

Good luck to all on here, YOU ARE A INSPIRATION!!!,

Tomorrow is a new day - day one (well actually two!) again!!!

Am so impressed by everyone on here

welcome aboard the wagon....we're on our second or third carriage now!!

I remember recycling new for old bottles....and packs of cans etc....I used to get the odd thought of how ridiculous it all was - especially when you were buying a replacement for something you didn't really like the first time round!

forgot to say I havent tried milk thistle before, whats it good for?

and whats everyone up to this weekend, Im studying and organising my place a bit. I got given a load of clothes for work which im going through and washing/mending. weekends can be minefields for us struggling abstainers but not if you approach them with the right armour on. Keep busy, practical things are good, cuddles with the kids, lazing in the sunshine, 'phone a friend'. Ive already cleaned out my cooker this afternoon (annualish thing, im not obsessive about these things honestly!) what are you all up to? anything exciting? cinema sounds good...

Hi All Best of luck with the dreaded friday night abstaining- just packed 14 yr old off to cinema to see Hancock with his Aunty- thought I'd read this thread for a bit when the doorbell went- a bloody drunk driver has taken the wing mirror off my car (now theres irony!!!I didn't drive for over a year when I was at my worst but the drink has still trashed my car!!!). Felt very sorry for the guy though, he said his wife had just died and he was a mess.

I've noticed loads of posts referring to hitting the drink after a bereavement (I finally lost the plot after my mum died suddenly too)- my CPN diagnosed post traumatic stress disorder in the end, and the drinking was all part of this- has anyone else ended up with a drink problem after something traumatic? It just seems like a common theme to a lot of the posts on here.

Anyway, very best of luck to everyone- I know how hard this is and you are all so motivating.

Oh and while I think about it, when I was in hospital they found I had chronium, potassium and Vit B deficiency- all caused by alcohol and poor diet, but I still take the supplements and swear by them- Vit B for the jittery panic attack symptoms works really well. GP can give you about 2-3 days of librium to get you over the worst if the withdrawal is really bad- doesnt do anything for the reason you drink though, you just have to work long and hard with yourself for that I'm afraid.
