Good luck with the new venture BC _party_ . Its good to have an incentive.

I've just travelled to the support centre to find out my counselling has been cancelled for the second time   .

By the time I get round to seeing someone I won't need it

Never mind - getting on alright on my own anyway. Bit annoying though as its 12 miles away and had to sit in traffic in the sun. Never mind though, had a wander through town instead and didn't spend any money whatsoever :T .

Keep up the good work everyone. Back to work in a minute for a couple of hours so will catch up later.

    Evening all,

Basil, amazing news! I'm so pleased for you :D

Bismarck, thanks for being so supportive to everyone (me included!) :)

ISOM, enjoy your book club, let us know what book you're reading..

Well, a bit of a turn up for the books this evening....

OH had to go to the docs before me as he has high cholesterol (sp?) and had a blood test last week and the results were in. His cholesterol is indeed high but he also has a high level of iron in his blood and his liver results came back 75 when they should of been 40 odd (or 7.5 instead of 4.0). The doc then questioned him about his alcohol intake as this is normally the only reason to get this level. He doesn't actually drink much, in fact he never really drinks indoors apart from a bottle of cold Magners when spurs are playing an important match, but he does go out on a Friday maybe once or twice a month but stays for lock in and won't get home till 4am. Doc reckons he's a binge drinker and has done his liver in just by drinking every 3 weeks  So he's not only gotta keep off the booze, but the red meat and funny fags too!

Anyway, although that's not good, it did make me laugh considering I've drank everyday for the last 15 years almost and my test came back normal!

So I went to the docs, he said that in his opinion I didn't need anti-depressants but something for anxiety. He's prescribed me diazepam which I'm a little concerned using as they are addictive but he said that he thought I needed calming down during the quitting period and needed help from the shakes and panics which he said I was actively showing him before him  He said, 'look you're shaking!' So maybe I'm inclined to agree as I've googled diazepam and it says that it helps people coming off alcohol, they're probably similar to the librium (sp?) I took during detox a couple of years ago. I've got to take up to 3 a day as required (only 1 at a time though), so thought I might leave the morning one and take one at lunch to help with going home time and then one in the evening if I need it.

I've only got a months worth, he said that that would give me a month of abstinence to feel sane again and shouldn't need them after that, I'm happy with that!

Oh he also said not to stress quitting until I get the pills so I will try and get them tomorrow lunch time. He said to stop stressing about quitting cos it's putting too much onus on it. Do it casually and calmly.

    So there we have it.

    Hope everyone else is well?

    xx

:hello: again! Well we had the BBQ yesterday & what a lovely day it was too! Had quite a bit to drink though but nowhere near as much as on the all dayer I did last week & I feel good today. Neighbour from 2 doors down has given me her's & her brother's season ticket to go & watch Derby County today as she has had an operation on her shoulder & her brother doesn't want to go so me & my mate are going. I am picking my mate up so will just have a pint of Shandy before the game(luckily my mate not a big drinker so won't have to stay in the pub for long drinking Coke) & straight home for Sunday dinner after the game. Only been to 3 games so far this season & 2 of them have been with free tickets & the other one was a cup game that cost £15. Haven't been to anymore because 1) The prices are way too high so can't afford to go 2) Even if I could afford it I don't agree with the prices 3) Derby have been carp this season:D ! I used to go regularly & my day would be meeting my mates in the pub before the game & having 4 or 5 pints, going to the game & having a couple at half time & then after the gae carry on drinking til I couldn't drink anymore. So glad I snapped out of it as those were the days when I was spending £40-£50 a time on beer & all I had to show for it was a bad head or stomach the next day. Good post by NT, I can also relate to most of thse emotions. Personally I won't hide from the fact that I like a drink, but compared to how I used to be I feel that I have cut down considerably & don't go on regular sessions anymore. Good luck to all of you & enjoy the weather! All the best!
Well went to the game with mate but decided to walk to the ground instead of driving, it was my mate who suggested it as we didn't fancy being stuck in traffic in the blazing sun after the game. Would rather not talk about the game itself as the performance of the players was absolutely pathetic & an insult to all the loyal fans who have stumped up their hard earned cash throughout the season, just glad I didn't pay too! Anyway I ended up having 3 pints & 1 bottle of lager & am pleased to say that I made it back home in the nick of time for my Sunday dinner at 6pm! OH was pleased with me as in the past I have told her that I will be back for tea & polled in a couple of hours late & understandably she wouldn't be happy with me at all! Had 2 more cans when I got in so I guess that I did have quite a bit to drink but I am not making excuses here,as I said before I used to get slaughtered on a match day so it does show how I have managed to cut down & control my intake. On my 2nd can of the night & there is one each left for OH & I. If we drink them then there's no more beer in the house til Friday so I won't have a beer til then. All the best to you all, been a bit busy today painting the garden fence & tidying the garden,so haven't had chance to catch up on all your posts. All the best to you all & stay strong, will be back on tomorrow.
