Hi all again, well the 2 cans turned into 5 on Wednesday & I ended up having 6 last night:o ! OH was off work the last 2 nights so I always tend to have more when she's off as she likes a drink during the week when she's off as she works most weekends ! Before she started this job we did have a bash at not drinking during the week, but now I'm drinking at weekends & during the week too! Saying that she doesn't pour it down my neck & to be fair we never usually drink that many, i guess the hot weather makes the ice cold beer all the more tempting! On my 2nd can tonight & will have one more whilst watching Benidorm then it's off to bed for me as at work at 4 in the morning. Invited my Mum round for a BBQ tomorrow,so will have a few beers then, but I never want to get into the state I was in last Sunday again so will pace myself! Well done to all of you for not drinking & cutting down, it does take alot of will power to do so. All the best!!
:hello: again! Well we had the BBQ yesterday & what a lovely day it was too! Had quite a bit to drink though but nowhere near as much as on the all dayer I did last week & I feel good today. Neighbour from 2 doors down has given me her's & her brother's season ticket to go & watch Derby County today as she has had an operation on her shoulder & her brother doesn't want to go so me & my mate are going. I am picking my mate up so will just have a pint of Shandy before the game(luckily my mate not a big drinker so won't have to stay in the pub for long drinking Coke) & straight home for Sunday dinner after the game. Only been to 3 games so far this season & 2 of them have been with free tickets & the other one was a cup game that cost £15. Haven't been to anymore because 1) The prices are way too high so can't afford to go 2) Even if I could afford it I don't agree with the prices 3) Derby have been carp this season:D ! I used to go regularly & my day would be meeting my mates in the pub before the game & having 4 or 5 pints, going to the game & having a couple at half time & then after the gae carry on drinking til I couldn't drink anymore. So glad I snapped out of it as those were the days when I was spending £40-£50 a time on beer & all I had to show for it was a bad head or stomach the next day. Good post by NT, I can also relate to most of thse emotions. Personally I won't hide from the fact that I like a drink, but compared to how I used to be I feel that I have cut down considerably & don't go on regular sessions anymore. Good luck to all of you & enjoy the weather! All the best!

I dug the neighbours garden for her a couple of days ago - she just passed me a bottle in a bag over the fence - I said no but she insisted.

The missus is having a cold glass of white wine with the other neighbour.

The local population is out to get me :D:eek::D:eek::D

Luckily I don't like whisky and I'm sure it will make someone a lovely xmas present. Does that count as another £10 saved today? ;)

Good idea - except for the title....

I'm still a newbie really but the again bit implies to me that failing to give up is an option. Giving up should be viewed more as choosing not to drink and regaining control over your lives - not a giving up/will miss it kind of negative spin.

I've chosen not to drink for getting on for a year now and I'm really passionate about the choice to not drink....OK the money and health saving part is great too. I know now that "just one drink" is one too many as it leads to many more and I don't really know how much that would ultimately cost. I am lucky to be where I am now as I so nearly lost it all.

Just read some of the recent posts and wanted to join in again.

Had a close thing last night....dear friend who used to be the drummer in our band phoned me up on Monday and asked if I'd like to go out with him "to town" and he and his mate were staying over in a hotel....I've met his mate twice when drunk and had a laugh...my mate and I drank whenever we met and it usually hit double figures.

I've not seen my friend for about 2 years.

    He's also VERY persuasive.

I was supposed to ring back on Friday to arrange meeting up. I did say 10 months ago that I didn't drink and he went, "yeah well.....right"

When I told him this week that I didn't drink he thought I was playing at it, some kind of health kick....

I didn't ring back and I didn't go and sulked a bit last night that I couldn't trust myself to go and be firm.

I did what had to be done and I do wish that I could have a few and leave it but I know that if I went out last night I'd have had about 8 pints and wanted more today.

So....for all who are sticking on the wagon, budge over cos you're cramping me!

If anyone wants to hop on, I'll make some more space for you.

P.s. I'd be damned if I'm forking out £10 for 2 lagers and a coke in a horrid nightclub....;)

jacks for me it became nessecary (sp) i as being bombarded with questions ...humans as a race are nosey creatures and people kept wanting to know why i wasnt drinking i was more scared than brave i was scared i would cave in and have a drink if i kept getting asked....when i said it for the first time whilst it was an incredibly hard thing to say i did feel strangely liberated (if that makes any sense) it got easier everytime i say it and i dont get the questions or the looks as much ...however a few close friends have tried to challenge me i think to help them feel better about their own drinking...i have stood resolute and explained this is what i feel for me what they feel for themselves is up to them..... i now havnt drank since the date on the bottom of my sig the thing is i dont know what my date is it has became meaningless (yet very meaningful) to me now i have realised that i can do it when i set my mind to it for me this has been the greater lesson

well done elantan.....you've stood up and been counted which is more than I've done...I've just changed who I see!

The relevance of dates fades with time, I'm coming up to my anniversary...the filofax still has all the days in since the last drink I had and as the years pass I'll have to just keep the sheet for the day itself and the rest will be history.

    I breathe, I sleep, I dream and I don't wake up tired.

    take care.
